Check F-150 Max tow Package using VIN

Does anyone know how to determine from the VIN, if a late model used F-150 is equipped with the 53C Max Tow package? TIA!

Hi, Chama. I found what’s called a “VIN Decoder” on the NHTSA website. Enter your VIN and model year then click “Decode VIN” to get your vehicle details. You can search for the Max Tow package if you don’t want to run through the whole list.

https://vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov/decoder/

Edit: I left out a step above. Click “Show All Vehicle Details” on the screen after you decode the VIN.

Edit 2: Looks like this NHTSA search doesn’t accomplish what I thought, or what you need. I’ll look for a better answer.

Edit 3: Well, I struck out, Chama. Sorry. You might have to contact a Ford dealer and ask them to do a VIN search for you to get the info you’re looking for.

There's nothing in the 'VIN code' that reveals presence of the Max Tow Package 53C - one must access the complete underlying VIN-specific vehicle equipment database to determine that. The axle ratio does not provide the answer because the 53C package uses ratios common to vehicles without the package (3:55 / 3:73).

FYI many F150's manufactured between 1/28/2020 - 12/25/2022 with the Max Tow Package 53C are under a recall (perhaps the reason for your question?).

Enter the VIN here https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls

If you see reference to NHTSA Recall Number 23V896 relating to the rear axle end bolt, the vehicle definitely has the Max Tow Package 53C.

The recall is specific only to trucks having the Max Tow Package 53C with its particular 3/4-float rear axle (of any ratio). The recall cannot yet be 'cleared / closed' for any affected vehicle because no remedy is yet available from Ford.

Note however, absence of the recall does not necessarily mean the truck is without package 53C.

Yes, my 2022 Fi50 has Max Tow Package 53C and shows the open recall (I've also received direct mail notification from Ford). Knocking on wood, I have not suffered axle end-bolt loosening or breaking as of this moment.

Pull the Monroey page for the vehicle by vin, it will list all factory options... It's often included on a Carfax report.

I just went to a Ford dealer to find and printout the window sticker of our 2019 F150. A week after getting the sticker from the dealer I found the original sticker.

Enjoy,

Perry

Oops, it's the Monroney label. You can buy one for most any car here https://monroneylabels.com/ for $10 given the VIN and year/make

I know that Toyota maintains a portal where owners can input any valid VIN for a Toyota vehicle to determine the specific model/trim/options/etc.

https://www.toyota.com/owners/vehicle-specification/

Does Ford not offer something similar?

I never found one for Ford. I've owned a couple of them, a 2001 e150 Econoline van, a 2002 f250 diesel long bed 4x4, and currently the 2019 Expedition limited 4x4 SUV

Not aware of a free resource, but for a ~$26USD fee anyone can get extremely detailed VIN-specific Ford build info at https://www.motorcraftservice.com/

Attached is an example of the build-sheet for my truck from that site, just one of many such data downloads available there. Another screen, for example, provides current registered owner info, basic vehicles specs, in-service date, and warranty info including any Ford Extended Warranty which has been purchased.

BTW, that ~$26USD fee provides a 72-hour subscription to the most current complete Workshop Manual (identical to what dealers see, you're paying for access to the same databases that dealer service departments use, constantly updated in real time).
