I use a Brahma Wheel Lock: https://youtu.be/T0w5BIi9M1M
They aren't being produced right now because of supply chain issues but there are other wheel locks you could buy. A wheel lock and a hitch lock would be double protection.

Thank you both very much. I think I’ll double check with Escape to confirm they are using the same couplers in 2022.

I concur on proven industries customer service. They quickly sent a replacement that properly fit after I had ordered the wrong one.

You might have the wrong model. I have a Proven Industries hitch lock on our 2019 21C and I wouldn’t use anything else. Give them a call.

I use the Fort Knox lock on my 21C when it sits in my driveway.

Before I ordered my Escape we look at one. The owner used a boot lock around the wheels because he told me Escapes are small enough to be stolen with a flat bed tow truck. I use a Reese lock that fits in the ball socket. Probably not the best buts it’s easy on and off.

My buddy picked up my 16' boat and trailer, using a crane on a flatbed truck. Not a problem, even though the boat was in my carport.
Only solution is to buy a 36' trailer, or maybe not.

The coupler used on the 21 NE I purchased in 2021 is the Braber 64.800.726 coupler. There seem to be 2 different versions of this coupler on the Braber website based on the photos I've found. One version has a wider, black latch while the other has a narrower silver latch. From Linda at Escape:

"The one on your trailer is definitely the one with the black latch.
The latch is 1 1/8” wide and the pin hole is ¼” ID."

Proven Industries reviewed the photo of this coupler and recommended the 2178-A coupler lock.

Also from Linda, regarding the front storage box latches:
"I did remeasure the lock hole on the hasp for the front storage box and it is ¼” as well."

Hope this helps!

Just purchased the Proven Industries lock. I paid $235 for the 2178-A plus $15 for shipping - total of $250. I phoned Proven Industries to check if I could order the coupler lock without the puck lock. It is possible to do so but Proven will only credit you $20 for the puck lock. The puck lock, if purchased separately, is $50 so you may choose to buy the two as a package, then buy your own puck lock for the coupler lock and use their puck lock elsewhere.

Yes, thank you very much. I’m assuming the 21C and NE share the same frame and coupler, so this is good intel.

I know some may think it's overkill, but we use a boot to secure our trailer. Takes about 5 min to put on and gives us peace of mind when leaving the trailer at the campsite.

I just picked up my 21ne and have discovered the Proven Lock 2178-a doesn't fit! Too narrow. And too late for an Amazon return. I am contacting Proven Lock and see if they can do anything and if they have a bigger one that will fit. I think Escape may have changed its coupler design. If I find out anything, I will share.

Yes, please let us know what you find out. We have the same model Proven Industries lock that we purchased to use when we pick up our 21C (same coupler, right?) in Sumas on June 13th.

Here’s a crazy question though - are you sure Proven Industries sent you the correct model? They goofed on our order with the puck. We ordered black, but they sent us blue. The packing list even says black. (We decided just to stick with blue).

If you have yours handy, would you mind measuring the inside width, please? Thanks! (If it’s a bother, don’t worry about it.)

Hi all,

I have used the 2178A on our 21 NE, which we picked up last week. It fits the Braber coupler. Please check the video on how to install the lock. The smaller piece needs to go into the coupler, which has to be latched before attaching the "body". The chains can then be attached inside the "body" of the lock, after crossing each chain over the coupler. See photo.

I've just taken some more photos to illustrate how the lock attaches to the coupler. The lock was modified to fit a Paclock puck lock.

I use the $3 lock that came with our trailer. The truth, I have insurance and store the trailer at a secure compound with lots of cameras. I store the trailer away from the house because it's a tell all I'm on vacation when it's not there.

I have a master key for any lock you buy. It's yellow and says Dewalt. My 20V grinder can cut any trailer lock off in 30 seconds. Hardened steel or not, it cuts like butter.

That’s a relief. I believe others on this forum have been successful at working with Proven Industries to exchange for to correct model. Good luck.

Great. I might as well save $250 and stick with the $10 hitch pin I bought at Walmart.
