Our 2021 Ford Ranger did a stellar job of pulling our 5. TA, that is until it couldn't due to being totalled. A Chev 4wd pickup pulled out directly in front of my wife. The other driver (according to a witness) was trying to beat another vehicle approaching from the right, but never looked left. Both vehicles were towed, my wife and passenger were injured and were transported via ambulance to the ER. Both are "OK" but very sore.
So the second manner in which the Ranger performed was for the front end to crush, but the passenger compartment survived well. Three airbags went off. The doors still opened and closed so they got out OK, but the bags made it a bit tricky for the passenger.
The other party was lucky, if she had gotten out a bit further an impact in the driver's door could have been fatal.

Glad to hear your wife and friend are going to be okay and that the Ranger's design did it's job in protecting them.
This is of particular interest as my wife recently purchased a 2019 Ranger at an estate sale. (none available on dealer lots right now)
I hope you are able to find a suitable replacement for your tow vehicle. If it's another Ranger I would be interested in seeing what you do for a hitch setup and what type of towing mirrors you use.
Tom&Joan, Thank you for sharing ... so sorry to hear about this accident and the loss of your Ford Ranger and your wife's injuries but so good to hear of the Ranger's 'performance' that kept her and her passenger safe from further harm. Nice to hear since my son drives a Ford Ranger everyday now.... Wishing your wife a speedy recovery and a speedy recovery for a new TV for your 5.0 soon. Take care, -Bea
