photo of 21' Escape coupler (current one)
Hi all
Any chance that the owner of a current 21' Escape could please post here clear and closeup pic(s) of the coupler?
Not the 5.0, just the regular 21' Escape.
I am researching big beefy coupler locks, and i need decent photos that show the profile and design of the coupler.
The one I hope to buy is the Proven Industries Coupler Lock model 2178. It also secures the safety chains, if you want.
$139 here
https://www.rvupgradestore.com/prove...ock-p/2178.htm
unlike some other web sites that sell it for $195!
It looks as if it may be a stronger design than the (somewhat similar) MegaHitch Lock.
The manufacturer (Proven Industries) asked me to email them a photo of the coupler to make sure they send me the right ‘variant’ of the 2178.
Yes I have looked thru many, many threads here, and done web surfing, to no avail.
Thanks!

That's what mine looks like; maybe Dave or Terri (dbawden) could take a pic of the newer style one....after you've finished that cold one of course

One thing we discovered when we picked up the 21. The Master Lock padlock did not have a long enough shaft to lock the coupler. The ETI employee who brought it over gave us a pin that we used. The original lock worked on the Casita, but not the escape.

We found the same to be true on our 17, last Sept.
We stopped at an auto parts store in Bellingham to buy a pin lock with the longer pin. (of course, now we have two keys and not just the one, but the good news is we have a lock for when we attach the bike rack (I hope it fits)).

UPDATE
I just heard back from Proven Industries - and after they saw the pics of the Escape 21' coupler they said that THIS DIFFERENT LOCK is the one that would work on a 21 'Escape
so NOT the model in the first post in this thread
so a 21' Escape needs a "model 2516-A"
Atwood coupler lock | best trailer lock online
here are 3 pics they sent me of the 2516-A on a similar coupler.

The Proven Industries page for the 2178 shows examples of some of the couplers which it fits, with a different style of latch.
For the lower price on the right lock, RVUpgrades.com might not be an option: they seem to offer the 2516, but not the 2516-A... and they are two different models according to the manufacturer (Proven).

That looks like it will work, one caveat. The better/stronger the lock, the harder to remove. I lost the key to my lock in the photo, was able to cut the lock off and remove. The lock in the photo looks to me unremovable without the key.

I'd guess you'd cut it off and weld on a new hitch. Shouldn't take that long to do.

Not necessarily. The padlock still has a lock cylinder (on the bottom), which could be drilled out (or maybe just picked) by a suitably equipped and skilled person (hopefully that means a locksmith). Puck locks are widely used, and so this must be manageable.

I'm guessing you're kidding, but at twenty five bucks for a coupler, and a grind-off-and-replace operation that trailer shops do every day, this is a realistic solution.
