ebike hitch rack concerns

I have a full size FAT ebike, with out the battery weighs about 60 lbs. For sure you will need an ebike specific rack. Many ebike riders use motorcycle racks to manage the weight. Also don't underestimate lifting/loading a 60lb bike on a rack it is not as easy as you think.

Regarding securing all the chains/locks etc. can be broken, some are obviously better. To me a bigger concern is the security of the rack attachment to the vehicle - there seems to be more thefts occurring where the racks are just cut off the vehicles. There have also been situations where entire bike stands full of bikes have been stolen.

Make sure they are insured.

folding bikes in tow vehicle is likely best option

Keep in mind that a good lock can add to the weight as well. Mine will lock up two bikes but is a brute at 10 lbs.

hah, I have that same kryptonite. yeah, whadda beast.

re: these best RV rated rack, its the 1Up Heavy Duty or Super Duty double racks, with a safe limit of 50 lbs per bike on the rack. these are NOT cheap, but extremely well made. the rack itself weighs close to 50 lbs, so 2 50 lb ebikes (sans batteries) and the rack puts you close to the Escape 150 lb hitch limit.

What two welders think of Escape's rear bumper and hitch receiver

I've had two highly experienced welders look closely at the frame, bumper, and welds on our 2014 E21C, and inspect the design, gauge of steel and welding carefully.

They concluded independently that Escape's 150-pound weight limit is conservative and that the hitch receiver could safely hold a reasonable amount more.

One of the guys tows a large travel trailer himself and suspects that one of the reasons for the 150-pound limit is to keep owners from overloading the rear bumper enough to cause towing problems by leaving inadequate weight on the ball of the tug/trailer hitch.

I plan to reduce the chance of overload or a weight imbalance problem when towing with heavy bikes by moving the spare wheel and tire from the rear bumper to the box of the truck.

I'm now optimistic that we can tow our 175-pound combination of e-bikes and 1Up SuperDuty double rack in safety while observing the posted speed limit on well-maintained roads.

Disclaimer: Please check with an expert before exceeding Escape's stated weight limit.

the real ugly is when the back axle of the tow vehicle goes over a dip or bump, the rear of the trailer can flail up and down rather violently...
