Trailer brake controller

Am buying a 2017 Escape 17B and will be towing with a 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk already wired for towing and with Tow Package. Would like recommendation on a Brake Controller. In this particular case, I will gladly pay for the best. Recommendations for best unit very much appreciated.

Hopefully the Jeep also has the brake controller wires near where a foot parking brake would be like many Pickup trucks and Full-Size SUV 's. If not would look for a wiring harness from etrailer as the OEM's can be a nightmare. The Tekonsha P3 is hard to beat: compact with good self-diagnostics.

I'm loath to suggest what is "best" of anything (so many different measures of that) but I've been very pleased with the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller I installed in my 2019 Ridgeline. It performs flawlesly and offers some advantages for very 'sanitary' integration in the vehicle dashboard if that's of interest.

I've got an older Tekonsha P3 in my F150, it's been a proven solid performer, too.

I had the P3 on my previous truck. It’s a very good controller, has 3 settings making it easy to change between trailers if you have that situation. From the setting I was then able to adjust it they way I wanted. It worked flawlessly for over 5 years.
