On our most recent trip the handle on our black tank dump valve cracked and today I got around to replacing it. Someone had said it was a 10 minute job, took me more like 20-30 minutes. Most of that time trying to get the two gaskets to stay in place while I positioned the new valve in place. Many bad words were said.
In my case, our 2021 5.0 has the new grey tank upgrade with the flexible fitting coming out of the tank. This allowed enough wiggle to pull the side of that combined drains out of the way. I can't imagine doing this job with the old rigid connections. Is there an easier way to slip that 3" valve in without bending the grey water side out of the way?
Well it won't help now, but for the next time & for others with the same problem, use a bit of Silicone grease (not the putty) to keep the gaskets in place. My biggest problem when I replaced mine is the metal plumber's tape used to hold the 3" pipe to the trailer was so tight (and the screws holding it in place buried) that it also took a lot longer than 15 minutes.
