We just returned from Nova Scotia. We encountered some of the roughest ever back roads around Baddeck during a GPS misdirection. . Also the term "bump" on Connecticut freeways should be redefined as "ski jump". One hit in a construction area at a "bump" was unbelievable.
The 1Up loosened up at the little blue locking flippers and the supports holding the wheels. There are some plastic washer/shims that probably wore slightly allowing things to shift. Next time I will tighten down those joints with a hex wrench before hand and during the trip. Unfortunately we never had a chance to use the bikes and never checked under the cover. My bad.
The bike cover and spare tire cover got a hole worn through, but no significant damage to the bikes.
1Up still a heck of a carrier. Would buy again.

I also had one of my bikes "loosen" in the supports holding the back wheel and this was due to a slow puncture. The tire was hard when I put the bike on the rack but by the time I got to my destination it was loose in the holder due to the tire loosing air. This is the only negative I have with the 1Up and it is the best carrier by far that I have bought and have gone through many over the years. I now bungy strap wheels to the tray when I have the bikes on the back of the trailer and can't see them in my rear view mirror.

Hey Red Dog, I'm assuming you've gotten and used your 1 Up bike rack. Any initial reviews? I still haven't ordered one but need to in the near future. Hope you guys are doing well.

Had Yakima 2 bike hitch on my Escape 19 for 8 years and 65,000 miles...replaces rubber tie down straps and used a nylon web strap from rack to Escape bumper...when tightened rack would not move or rotate...will put same rack on my 21.

Yes, we received ours with three keyed locks; 2 for the bikes and one for the hitch. I paid the extra bucks for the black model.
The ease of mounting/dismounting our bikes is very impressive and the hitch mount is rock solid. You won’t be disappointed.

We use one of 1-Up’s hitch locks as our coupler lock on the front of the trailer, as the shaft is exactly the right diameter and the length is good. We also got Deadbolt hitch receiver/drawbar locks from etrailer that are keyed same as the 1-Up, so everything - hitch locks and bike locks - works on the same one key. Wish I could get a few more things keyed the same...

LOL! My motivation was that our old one broke beyond repair and we were getting ready to head out. If I had not mounted the bikes on the old rack, as a pre-check, I would have been in a pickle when it was time to leave.

Bike Racks
We just returned from a 2 month+ trip, the shakedown cruise. Decided to buy some cheap mountain bikes and a rack. Found a Swagman XC2 RV rated on Craigslist for $65. Then bought 2 well used Cannondales for about $200 total. The Swagman hitch needed to be extended 4" to allow clearance around the Escape spare tire, that was another $60 at a machine shop. Looks like everything will work. If we ever get nicer bikes for RVing we may reconsider the rack, but this is a good solution for now.

Our 2015 Escape 19 has a label stating maximum 150 lbs for the bike carrier receiver.

150 lb. At one time, ETI would add additional hitches to the rear (for a more stable rear platform), but they noted it was 150 lb total (3 hitch receivers = 50 lb each). They won't add extra hitches anymore.

Yes...but you can remove the batteries to make them lighter and most have aluminium frames.
