Forum is failing me
Hello Administrators,
I have been dropped from posting repeatedly recently. I don't know why.... but its pretty frustrating to put the effort into typing ... then hitting the "Submit" button. Then nothing happens ... message disappears until I get a message that states that the "security something is invald" or some such rubbish.
How do I fix this?
Tom

Tom, trying to help you is beyond my expertise because I can't duplicate your problem on my end. The mention of "security" sounds like you're getting a warning from your anti-virus.
One of the forum admins will be looking into this, standby and be patient.

I wonder if your login access duration has expired before your clicking submit. The site timeout is quite short.

I have never been logged off due to timeout, and I have some of my posts have taken a good long time to compose. I doubt that is the problem in this case.

I've had a similar problem . I log on , type a response / post , hit submit , screen says I can't post cause I am not logged in , log in again (2nd time) , try to post again but the post has magically disappeared and all I have is a blank screen.

Copy the post before logging in a second time. Then you save what you have written and can paste it into the 2nd attempt to respond. I haven't gotten the message but have seen the "system" freeze up in occasion.

Select the sentance/paragraph, then....
Ctrl-C to copy
Ctrl-V to paste

Tom, I am only as smart as the computer I am working on, so don't know a solution. I do believe though it is something to do with your computer and setup and how it is working with the forum software, as I have been logged on continuously for months at a time, and have not had problems.
My standard solution to problems is to first just shut down my browser and restart, and if that does not work reboot my computer. The next solution is to clear cache and cookies on my browser, run Ad-Aware and Spbot, then reboot. After this, my computer has always run lickety split.
Good luck with a fix, I am sure the site admins will have a good clue what the issue might be.

You might be better of writing your lengthy message in Notepad, then copy and paste that into reply window.
IF you use IE, under "options," you can add the EscapeForum as a trusted site. Don't know if that will cure the problem, but might be worth a try.

I'm sorry you are having trouble. It's a little tough in the absence of exact info to help but I suspect that you got an 'invalid security token" message which generally has to do with a login cookie issue. Can you try:
Logging out (hit the logout option up on the top navbar)
Close your browser
Restart your device.
Login again.
if that doesn't fix the issue, please let me know what device and browser you are using so we have dig in a bit more.

As you login, you may also which to check the box "keep me logged in". This means that on that device, providing it as your own pc/iPad/iPhone or whatever other device, you will remain logged in providing you don;t clear your browser cache.

Yes - tick the 'remember me' button. You must also allow cookie exchange with the site and if your virus/security settings are very high this may be causing an issue. we use cookies to keep you logged in at page changes. If you are not allowing them or purging them at page changes you get logged out every time you click around the site.

Thank you everyone .... I'm on my way to work so cannot follow through with your suggestions at this time.
This actually has been a re-occurring problem that keeps me from wanting to post much. Sometimes my posts get up just fine and the next time no luck.
Thank you,
Tom

I wouldn't waste time and disrupt everything you're doing by restarting your computer; it's standard advice used by tech people to create a known starting point, but rarely has anything to do with the problem. As Janet explained, there are issues with tokens expiring, which results in messages telling you that you can't do a perfectly valid action. Restarting the computer doesn't fix that, and guarantees that you lose your work unless you have saved to a file outside of the web browser.
The solutions to timing out if taking a long time to prepare a post are generally to - "Preview" occasionally to keep the session active, and to
- select all the text in the compose box of the post (click anywhere in there and Ctrl-A in Windows) and copy it (Ctrl-C in Windows) before hitting "Submit"... in case you need to start again you can just paste (Ctrl-V in Windows) what you copied into a new compose window.
If you do the "select all" thing click somewhere to cancel the selection after you have copied it; if you don't, the next thing you type replaces all that stuff you saved, and you need to remember to "undo" (Ctrl-Z in Windows) before it is lost!
If you have copied a draft version of your post (Ctrl-C) then you can paste it into a text file on your computer in case things go really wrong before you're ready to submit, or in case you just want to finish it another time.
