Another Dave on the Escape Forum?

I hope the Forum can accommodate another "Dave"!

Jane and I, newly retired after careers in library and public health, are scheduled to become owners of a new Escape 17B in September, 2014. As tent and van campers (VW Westfalia), we have been considering a change in our camping style. We eventually decided on a molded fiberglass trailer and looked at several in our northern Utah area. Then, on our 2012 camping trip to Cape Blanco, we stumbled onto the Oregon Gathering in Bandon. A friendly Escape owner (as I recall, he had a "fiver"), talked to us about Escape trailers while we waited for another camper to park his trailer. Since then, we learned more about Escape and decided to go ahead with our purchase after viewing Chuck's 17B in Park City, UT.

I have been an almost daily reader of the Forum in recent months, and I am most impressed with the knowledge and helpfulness of the members (many Daves, too). I expect to tap into that resource as we approach our Build Sheet deadline.

Welcome to the Escape world. Putting your build sheet together is fun and exciting. We plan on visiting your state this fall.

Welcome Dave and Jane,
I'm on my second Escape and have gone thru the build process twice now, so any questions on the build sheet can be handled. There is rally north of you in about 2 weeks where there will be close to a 100 Escapes, all different sizes and insides. You could come up and look into what may fancy you. I know I'll be towing BlackJack thru your neck of the woods on my way to attend the rally. Here is some more info….http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f1...ally-2818.html

Hi Dave

Welcome to the forum! In some ways our story towards the Escape world mirrors yours. My wife is retired (she got a sweet buyout). I will likely retire in about 2 years or so. The build sheet for our 17b must be completed by June 1. So we are at the end phase of the nerve wracking phase of deciding FOR SURE what we want in the trailer. We found the inverter issue to be the most significant decision. In the end decided that it is too expensive to justify my wife's using a hair dryer. We've decided that we want to be set-up for boon docking via dual batteries/solar ..... Decided that we want to go simpler, although we also are putting in an air conditioner so I guess we are "conflicted" Lots of decisions fun times ahead for you both, enjoy!

P.s. Actually, another significant decision was making the bed permanent. That saves having to rig up something over the cushions, since we'll be getting the Escape mattress and in any event, we don't envision using the dinette for eating at all.

Larry

Thanks all for the kind responses. We are looking forward to participating in this great forum. And for you Daves, you may get a chuckle from reading Too Many Daves by Theodor Geisel (Dr. Suess): Too Many Daves by Theodor Geisel : The Poetry Foundation

John and Brenda, with 5 national parks, 7 national monuments and 43 state parks, there is plenty to do and see in Utah. Fall should be a good time to visit, too, since summers can get pretty hot in southern Utah. With a few exceptions, we usually avoid summer trips to the southern half of the state to avoid the heat. For example, last month we spent a week hiking, camping and backpacking in Capitol Reef NP, and it definitely was not hot. I hope you enjoy your trip!
