We have cut the gray tank line and installed a Fernco connector on the gray drain line so that one can cleanout and inspect the gray tank. After too much time researching how the level sensors work and doing some diagnostic tests (see a previous post of ours if you wish) I have found that soap scum precipitates on the walls of gray tank, causing the sensors to sense electrical continuity in the soap scum layer as opposed to a water level as expected. If the tank is cleaned (flushing the tank with a hose and brushing the sensors with Dow bathroom cleaner), the sensors work perfectly.
So with that background, I am now changing from using soaps to "detergents" (e.g., Dawn) and liquid "soaps". We will see if the soap scum reappears and fouls the sensors. Would be interesting to see if the Camco cleaner (per John) or Cascade (per KathyTony) keeps the soap scum at bay.
For the black tank, a wand cleaner like John showed the the first post works well. On the road, I find that when we have hookups, just dumping the black tank, refilling the blank tank again via the toilet with water, and dumping again cleans the sensors. I suspect paper or material is conducting between the sensors giving a false reading.
