I ass u me this is what your's looks like.

I see no difference between our older (late 2018) BMV-712 in our 5.0 and the new ( late 2022) BMV-712 installed in our Bigfoot. Ours are constantly upgraded with a solftware update through the phone app. Has your 712 been updateing itself since you purchased it? Ours seems to update at least every 6 months or so.

Enjoy,

Perry

Yes that is indeed what mine looks like. I think when I was thinking ours might be an older version, is the confusion with the smart shunt. I am not sure if the smart shunt was even available back then.
I do get the software updates fairly regularly and they do upload without any issues

Both the newer Smart Shunt & the BMV 712 Smart have microprocessors built in (in the Smart Shunt case or in the read out meter (head unit) in the BMV 712 Smart). A failed processor could fail to properly calculate SOC while still showing correct voltage & current. An update won't fix a hardware failure. No idea what the warrantee looks like.

Both a replacement shunt PCB as well as a replacement shunt are available, but I doubt either is the cause of your problem.

I can't find a source for just the head unit, but I suspect that it is probably close to the price of a complete BMV 712 Smart.

You might try using the Victron Support website.

Thanks for this. I think what I am going to do is simply buy a new Smart Shunt. I seldom look at the display anyway as I usually just use my phone. The Smart Shunt is less expensive that the BMV712

And a new shunt won't fix a software issue. It's cheaper to either update your app, or if that doesn't work remove the app and reinstall first. Only if those don't work would I buy or replace under warranty.

Enjoy,

Perry
