Both the newer Smart Shunt & the BMV 712 Smart have microprocessors built in (in the Smart Shunt case or in the read out meter (head unit) in the BMV 712 Smart). A failed processor could fail to properly calculate SOC while still showing correct voltage & current. An update won't fix a hardware failure. No idea what the warrantee looks like.
Both a
replacement shunt PCB as well as a
replacement shunt are available, but I doubt either is the cause of your problem.
I can't find a source for just the head unit, but I suspect that it is probably close to the price of a complete
BMV 712 Smart.
