Joshua Tree Camping

We're planning (covid allowing) to spend a few days at Joshua Tree NP this fall. Any thoughts or advice on preferred campgrounds and/or sites with a truck and E19?

We visited Joshua Tree last summer, camped in Jumbo rocks site 120, beautiful and private site. As expected for that time of year it was very hot, fall should be better, if you prefer reservation as we did, reserve a spot as early as you can.

We stayed at Jumbo Rocks last year, the only one open during the government shutdown. Some nice spots, and a beautiful landscape great for hiking. It was free at the time too, and the day we left the shutdown ended and fees were coming back.

Really nice shots. We drove through Joshua last year but couldn't stay. Hope to do it next time.

I've stayed at Jumbo Rocks a couple of times, site 40 in February 2017 in my 17 (just fit) and in site 77 in November 2017, in my 21. Some photos.

I stayed in Cottonwood in 2014 in A16 & A 14. Both fairly tight for the 17, but there are larger sites. You need to drive to a pull off on the side of the road at N 33.69793° by W 115.80276° to find cell coverage.

Thanks, Jon. I was interested in Cottonwood because I thought it might be less crowded than other campgrounds due to its location, and apparently I'm right. It also appears to be more convenient to get to from Quartzite if I go there again.

Thank all y'all (my Southern mother's influence) for the recommendations and great photos! We appreciate them and will hopefully have a chance to get down there later this year.
