Quartzsite for first time

2 questions:

We will be there end of February and early March 2023.

!. What should we plan on doing or seeing in the area, not just the town?

2. Which LTVA to stay at, and why? Dome Rock is the only one mentioned here.

Dome Rock is the short term area, 14 days free. There are several long term areas, maybe Jon will point you in the right direction. Depends on how long you're planning to stay in the area.

Thanks Ron. Going after the show intentionally. Crowds are not our thing. There are some wildlife refuges, but not sure what else to check out.

Ron
There are around 8 Long Term Visitor Areas between Arizona & California. In Quartzsite there are 4 areas: LaPosa North, LaPosa West, LaPosa South, and LaPosa Tyson Wash. LaPosa West is closest to the Big Tent area and about a mile walk to town, about the same distance for LaPosa North. LaPosa South is where the fresh water, and dump station is located.

While the areas around Quartzsite such as Dome Rock are free for 14 days, at which time you must wait around a month before staying again, the LTVAs charge either $40.00 for 2 weeks (repeatable) or $180.00 for 7 months (October to April). For your money you get access to dumpsters at any of the locations, and fresh water & a dump station at LaPosa South & Imperial Dam near the Yuma Proving Grounds. You can use the same pass to move between any of the LTVAs.

As to what to do in the area other than the town's flea markets & gem & mineral sales, there isn't all that much.

I have visited Crystal Hill in the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge (you can even boondock at the hill area but it is a long, rough road in), the Castle Dome Mines Museum & Ghost Town further south off AZ/US 95, again with dispersed camping in the area.

Lake Havasu City is about 80 miles north on AZ 95 & has the London Bridge for those that like tourist traps, a winter hot air balloon festival as well as a week of fireworks a week after the Dome Rock Fiberglass rally.

In addition, one can daytrip to Yuma and the old territorial prison. Downtown Yuma business owners are working to make the downtown area 'touristable'.

Balloon festival is before we get there, but we usually make Topeka’s Huff N Puff.

When we are going to Quartzsite we have stayed at a county park outside Blyth on the Colorado River called Mayflower campground It is a nice little county park with lots of Snowbirds because of the different site rental terms they offer. We also have camped in many different areas around Dome Rock just disperse camping. On our last trip a few months ago, we found a really nice area, but the seasonal crowds had not arrived yet. Just north of Quartzsite about 1hour is Parker and Lake Havasu where Buckskin and River Island campgrounds are located, and they are really nice and worth the trip.

Hey Jon,

we're thinking of arriving into Quartzite on about Feb 6th for the Egg Rally which I understand is centered around the Dome Rock area? Can anyone tell me what this rally is all about? are there seminars, activities??

The crowds are gone by the time the fiberglass rally happens.
