What to see/do Vancouver Island

Currently planning to attend the Escape rally in May and then thinking I'd like to visit Vancouver Island for an indeterminate period of time. Have never been so would welcome any suggestions regarding what to see, what to do, where to camp, etc. Escape 19. I realize this is late to be planning but hope to be able to set up some reservations anyway.

Thanks!

You would be just in time for the Nanimo Fiberglass Rally June 3 - 5.
You can get more info in this link:
https://facebook.com/events/s/june-r...4214139472404/

Also if you make it back to Hope BC for June 16 th you can make the Fiberglass rally there as well. You can get more info on that rally in the link just below:
https://facebook.com/events/s/bc-gla...1585469424729/

Just a note that the last event is in a newer an much nicer location than the posted picture shows…within the spectacular mountains of Hope
Enjoy

Thanks!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! Possible stop at that rally and definitely putting the recommended places on my "to visit" list!

If you were going to Tofino, which campground would you recommend? I don’t need a fancy resort.

We thoroughly enjoyed visiting Port Alberni on Highway 4, then on to Ucluelet and up to Tofino. Some great scenery and beach walking to be had. Might not be too crowded. Not sure about camping options; we were traveling w/o trailer.

And the Port Renfrew loop on Highways 14 and 18.

And of course Victoria. Stayed at the Empress and had High Tea - very high snoot index. And Butchart Gardens is nearby.

Once you've paid for the ferry, you might as well stay for a while.

If you leave heading south, maybe take the ferry from Victoria to Port Angeles and hit the Olympic Peninsula on your way - might be cheaper.

Tofino and Long Beach are definitely must sees. Popular spots where RV sites are often booked a year in advance. A number of private sites like Surf Grove, Crystal Cove, Bella Pacifica and others. Range fro bare bones surfer campsites to nice resorts. There is a Federal Park 18 km from Tofino called Green Point - nice park but not serviced if that is your thing. No BC Provincial Campgrounds on Tofino side of Island. Rathtrevor and Miracle Parks on other (Nanaimo) side. Also not serviced. Beautiful places, make sure you have the time to enjoy and make the cost of ferries worthwhile! Enjoy.
