12v vs 6v

Batteries come in different physical sizes. What amp-hour rating will you want/require? You put different size/amp hour in your toyota Yaris compared to your Ram diesel. ET apparently uses one size probably due to the size of the battery holder. Type of battery - sla, agm, lithium iron, also have size variations. Why would you want to use 2 6-volt in series when you could use 2 (or more) 12-volt batteries in parallel, if the 12-volt battery are of an equivalent built quality as teh 6-volt?
