outdoor awning with kitchen tent
Hello Everyone:
We are about to order our 2017 Escape 5.0 TA, but cannot find a kitchen tent attachment on the list of options. Any ideas ? Thanks.

Hello Lee, do you mean the screen room option? Cannot comment on that option for the 2017, (read all of the new awning threads). We have a 2014 model and use a separate screen room to cook outside in buggy areas. The Clam screen rooms are real popular. Scott

Lee if you have the classic 2016 with Carefree awning , Escape has a awning screen room ,you can get from them for your awning . We have one for our 19 . It is very nice and everything goes in a a nice robust bag for storage . Pat

I spent some time on the Dometic website last night and they make it quite clear that you cannot attach a screen room to the new 2017 power awning. This includes their own "Patty O'Room". I'm disappointed too - I was quite looking forward to that option on my 17B. Here's hoping I'm wrong!!

I have the screen room on my 17B. I've only set it up a couple times in five years or so. Easy enough to do, but I can't be bothered. I have no desire to sit inside the screen room.
If mosquitoes are really bad and Deet doesn't work, I'll just go inside the trailer.
A positive; it's a lot easier to kill wasps and flies when you have them trapped against the mesh inside the screen room.

The Patty O'Room and new Veranda Room use the awning roller tube as part of the room's structure. The new awning has the roller attached to the trailer instead of on the outboard edge of the awning. I'd be surprised if Dometic doesn't come up with a solution for the new awning eventually.

I can almost see why the awning manufacturer wouldn't design a screen room for this model awning.
Scenerio: screen room attached, trailer owner away, wind picks up, awning retracts. Crunch! Unless, an override would automatically put the awning into manual mode when the screen room is attached.
Time will tell.

We took our Clam shelter out for the first time this week. It worked great and just like the video shows it took us less than a minute to set up.

A good point, but the screen room isn't compatible with the 9500 manual awning either. I suppose it has to to with the lack of side arms, which are used to support the structure.

That's as of today. Tomorrow Perhaps even a different company will aftermarket a screen room to fit these particular style of awnings. They very well might if there's enough demand.

I think there would be an issue with the auto rainwater dump. Add enough weight and the awning would try to shed it.

Might be a bit of overkill with the awning, but could you set up the Clam shelter under the awning to act as a screen room? The sides appear to be quite straight and at a height of 91" and a 17B height of 8'2" (without the high lift axle), it should fit right up against the trailer?? I didn't check if the Clam has 1 door or two - obviously, that would be a factor.

Thanks for all your replies everyone. I think we are going to go with the Clam shelter. Looks so easy, and 12' x 12' is tons of room.

How did you attach the skirt and end panels to the fiberglass exterior of the trailer? The veranda installation instructions show drilling into the trailer side to attach metal swivel tabs. I’m not sure the fiberglass is thick enough to hold panels if the wind blows hard.

My 2007 Escape 17B had snaps along the bottom of the trailer. That's all I know, we never used it, we prefer the Eureka dining shelter.

I’m in the process(planning stages) of fitting my veranda room to the side of my classic 2014 5.0 trailer. A screaming deal ...and your photo pushed me over the edge to give room a try. The YKK SNAD adhesive backed snap bases look perfect for application except the snaps are designed to withstand sheer forces and not so much pulling out forces. (Not referring to adhesive). Do your SNAD’s work well on windy days? I’m gonna use them anyway just because I don’t see any other better option. Www.sailrite.com does have a ‘pull the dot’ snap fastener that would lock in and be solid. But doesn’t have the adhesive backing option. Also has another(better?) option that would fit the existing SNAD’s. YKK snap tie stud. I’m inquiring with Sailrite about them incorporating the adhesive backed option for one way pull the dot snaps. I’ll let you know what they say.
But meanwhile, Do your existing SNAD’s work well on windy days? Thanks, Bob
