Wow Steve, you surprised me! Congrats on your purchase. Planning on breaking in the 21 on the Alcan Highway?

Gotcha Robert! We have been considering this for a while. Really, really like the 5.0 TA but just can't give up the pickup bed. We saw Marv and Vicki's (gen 2) recently and that sealed the deal. As to the Alcan, maybe '18. Not a good time for us southerners to be heading that far north in October ❄️!

Great! You are going to love it. That long wait time might shrink when they get their expansion online.

Anybody keeping count of the 19-21 migrations? Only aware of one in reverse, however that is likely to change in a year
Steve, could'be sworn you said you didn't like the floor plan on the 21. What changed your mind?

Well it wasn't me so much me as my wife was not too crazy about it. But we recently spent a lot of time going over Marv and Vicki's 2nd gen and this changed things for her. My biggest negative on the 21 is the black tank-wish it was the same size (30 gallon) as the 5.0TA. But there are always compromises and the advantages out weigh the negatives. And in 2018 we may be traveling most of the year so the larger size will work better.

Hey Steve, are you sure that black tank is only 22 gallons? I know that's what the spec says but I thought I remembered the new one was larger.
My other thought is, you know there is a ton of space under the bed. If you want a larger tank, they might be able to install one for you.

Marv,
I did confirm with Sarah the tank capacities at 28/28/22. I do intend to ask Reace about a larger black tank. Hopefully he will go for that.

With the bathroom at the front a 30 gal. tank will add 66.72 Lbs. to the tongue weight plus the additional weight of the tank. You may not drive much with it completely full but Reece has to use that in the calculations. That can affect the kind of tow vehicle he can recommend using to pull the trailer. They may also have to consider the full propane tanks and loaded storage box in the worst case scenario.

I had the same thoughts about the design/engineering but I will still ask.

Yes, 8 US gallons more wastewater would mean more load up front, but the owner could carry 66 pounds of cast-iron cookware in the storage compartment beside the black tank, too.
I don't know that Reace needs to account for a larger filled waste tank in any calculations, but the person using the trailer does. It is the owner/operator's responsibility to keep the trailer - within the total allowed weight (GVWR), and
- distributed appropriately (with a reasonble tongue weight)
Enlarging the black tank would not affect the GVWR, and would not significantly affect the dry&empty total weight or tongue weight. If an owner fills that larger tank, then yes other loads in the trailer need to be controlled appropriately.

As close as I can measure from the outside, the black tank is mid-way between the hitch and the axles. So, 30+ lb on the hitch and 30+ on the axles. Sounds insignificant to me. Reace may think different.

As far as I know on our 2015, our tanks are 30 fresh, 26, 22. Hope that is right. So another change in tanks.

We also just place one for a 21 footer. I'm starting the job of option research. Anyone know of good, unpublished ones?

Richard, use the google search option under the search drop down near the top of the page, there are a number of good threads with the info you seek.
Keep in mind ETI is always evolving, things may have changed since last mentioned here.

Remember that the effective axle location is halfway between the wheel centres. I'm sure the black tank is closer to the ball than to the axle locaation, but it is a good point that the tank is not simply at the ball. The black tank appears to be roughly twice as far from the axles as from the ball, so about one-third of any added weight there will be carried by the hitch.
