No eclipse for me

The sun got eclipsed by the moon here early this morning. I was out there, camera ready, watching patiently for hours for signs that the moon would be approaching the sun, but... well, I completely missed it. I think it happened at around 9:20 am. Guess the big event happened exactly just when I ducked into the house for coffee for a few minutes. Was constantly scanning the horizon, assuming the moon's imminent approach would be the alert, but --it never showed. Hate when that happens.

Too bad because you had a lot clearer sky than we did. I went outside at the predicted peak time. We had heavy cloud so it wouldn't have been terribly bright out but I think that it was noticeably dimmer for a short time.

Must have been a large coffee.

I also missed the eclipse, but I did just get back from watching Taylor Swift Eras on imax. Wow! What a story teller on the big stage she and her crew are. I wasn’t a swiftie before, but I am now.

Saturday afternoon

I spent my afternoon in the Hilton out at the farm. Saw 21, all does, yearlings and fawns eating soy beans off the ground. No eclipse just migrating songbirds, cackling pheasants, and some fall color.

you can't see the moon approaching the sun, because its lit from the other side and is completely dark. you see its shadow once it overlaps with the sun, that window could be a couple hours long from first partial eclipse to last partial eclipse, but you HAVE to have a safe solar filter to observe this.. the actual annular eclipse, assuming you were somewhere like Albuquerque near the centerline, lasted about 5 minutes, peak in Alb. was at about 16:37 UTC, which is, I believe, 10:37am MDT.

Up at 8:30 am, kept scanning the horizon360 degrees for the moon, figuring I would track it until it crossed the sun, but had no solar filters. And No joy. When thinking I could take a break, gone inside for my coffee, Nancy mentioned she saw the sky had suddenly gone dark but - I paid that no mind, went out, kept on scanning until noon. Clearly, victimized by my Octogenarianism.
