Rossue, I think that is talking about optional insurance, travel trailers do need to have a license plate and registration plus basic yearly insurance in BC anyway.”From the BC Gov site-
“Looking for Trailer Insurance?
Buy, renew or cancel your insurance. Your recreation vehicle or trailer must be registered and insured as you would any other vehicle. Talk to your insurance broker.”

Not sure about plates and BC, but in the states, I have towed trailers all over for weeks at a time until I could get plates. Insurance has always been as easy as a call to my agent before purchase.

Yes, and that's the $27 item at the top of my insurance policy. The "Basic" is the compulsory liability insurance charge for, I think, $100,000 liability coverage.

I think my main point is that picking up a trailer at ETI and towing it on BC roads without any displayed permit or license will trigger you being pulled over. Most folks would want to avoid that. For those with a permit or their home state plate it should not be a problem.

I guess we have to wait for someone to actually exercise this option and see how it all works out.

I hope Canadian jails are better than Mexican jails.

How are Canadian jails? Asking for a friend.

I read an article a few years back that said CA prisons are quite cushy. Kitchenette, cook your own meals if you like, watch cable TV, etc. If I ever run out of money in the US, my retirement plan is to get arrested in Canada...

Aw, come on. Just because a guy can kill his wife and end in a place that when he tired of playing golf he got to bring his horse out from another province.

We call those places Club Fed.

Not to be OT, no prison for towing a trailer without a license plate, just a pull over and don't go anywhere until it's sorted out.

So you don't think Dudley has bigger fish to fry than pull over a Brand New Escape to needlessly hassle the proud new owners? Sounds like The Voice of Doom

Can imagine what Roy Kent would say to all that

Nope, sounds like a law that says all vehicles must display a license plate.

Here in GA you have 30 days to register a newly purchased vehicle. And if purchased outside of GA, you first have to get the VIN verified by local PD and get a form filled out by the officer.
I've done this several times.

I won't be buying anything in Canada.....silly law.
