6 years ago today...

6 years ago today, we arrived in Dallas Texas, after an all night drive from Reno, and bought our E21! dozens and dozens of camping trips later, a week before we launch on a 8000 mile 4 month adventure through Mexico, we have zero regrets.

370 Days from now I'll be able to take those long adventures. Until then I'll live vicariously through you and the others on this forum.

Safe Travels!

no, this trip crosses in McAllen TX to Reynosa, heads down the east coast to Veracruz, Yucatan, Quintana Roo, criss crosses the southern parts, then zig zags up the west coast to Mazatlan. For the April 8th 2024 total solar eclipse, we'll be just north of Durango, MX at a high elevation desert ranch, then back to Mazatlan, then up to Copper Canyon, and back to the US via Nogales... general itinerary is camping 2-5 days then travel 150-300 miles for a day, repeat.

um, that pic is the day we bought it 6 years ago. but actually, we gave it a pretty decent wash the other day and it still looks great from 20 feet away.

When we get back from this long trip, I'm going to have a boat detailer buff it out with compound and give it a ceramic coat.

Hi John, When you get back and have your 21 buffed and coated with ceramic, and if you are happy with your detailer and your experience, is there any chance you might post about that? I too am interested in backdating the finish on my 21 and knowing a good professional for this locally would be helpful. Thank you and happy trails to you!

I had it done once before with poly coating... ceramic coats lasts about twice as long with my level of benign neglect

Are you traveling with the Caravanas de Mexico? We're doing the whole Yucatan trip.

John, we have been in Mexico over a month now. We'll join Caravanes de Mexico in Durango, I think we are scheduled to lead you into San Juan Baleaneario when your wagon master takes off for the Eclipse Site. That is if you are staying at Tres Amigos on April 5th and heading to Durango on the 6th.

We'll be at Tres Amigos (Mazatlan) on the 3rd, heading to the water park on the 4th. Helping arrange parking for the caravan coming in from Roca Azul on the 5th. Then heading back to Mex 40D on April 6th to lead your group plus others into the water park. We might then go up to the the eclipse site that same day to help set up parking for the 35 participants. Then again we might join the groups headed to the eclipse site on the 7th. Paul Beddows is assigning tasks and we are part of the group assisting.

Are you bringing your telescopes?

I've got an older Meade 8" SCT loaded, largely because A) I have a solar filter for it, B) its got battery powered clock drive, and C) its in a small steamer trunk. also bringing my nice 10x50ED binocs, with solar filters. I've got a 30mm 82 degree eyepiece for the Meade which will give a 1.2 degree FOV, thats about 2.5 sun diameters, I know the corona is many times that during totality
