I don't think personal data is shared (sold) by the folks who own this forum or FiberglassRV.com.

I would disagree , but maybe the powers that be can weigh in. I would be surprised if our email addresses aren't sold... Its a multi billion dollar biz

Let's assume your email address is not sold. Still, all those pop up advertisements that somehow target those items you were just looking at over at Amazon? That's where the money is right now. You click one of those, the web site makes a little money.

Agreed but yo can opt out of that stuff... They can and will monetize you by your email address.. Its just biz. These companies aren't maintaining these forums because they like Campers......Janet H is head of several Forums I belong to.. all good.. The big money is in the email list...

I assume that my email address is not of much value, since I get very little spam, even though it's in my profile info.

Yours may not be in your eyes... But he biz is selling an email list, not individual , by dollars spent. Bigger the email list, the more money its worth.

IMO there's hardly any comparison between Escape forum and FB. This forum isn't administered or moderated in such a way as to advance a particular agenda regarding world outlook or politics. I appreciate that.

As a retired IT specialist I’d say all the haters of social media perhaps don’t realize that every web search and site visits is mined by the dns providers. If you are serious about privacy your online presence is being monitored by big business all the time. There are a few ways to limit it. One use a whole house ad blocker device, like the free open source ad blocker called Pihole on a small computer like a rasberri pi. It’s a little work and you have to have access to what your router is sendings out as dns servers. The other is to use dns servers that are more private. Facebook has nothing on the the ISPs mining your data. If someone wants more information pm I’ll answer question within reason. No tin hats please.

I agree...there's really no avoiding exposure. I suspect the best we can do is pick and choose our "poisons." As far as this forum goes, I'm really glad it's available and as timely, informative and congenial as can be. Thanks for your part in that, Donna!

Spam. Robot phone calls, email lists for sale and data mining of many types are an irritation no doubt. The robins in my yard are running about trying to find something to eat but are having a time pecking though the sleet and ice on the ground. Now that’s an irritation worth worrying about. Yet they are prolific providers for their young and in a few weeks I’ll have four nests on the house and another ten or so in the trees in the yard. I don’t pay much attention to unwanted electronic contacts. Much more watching robins and other avian fauna. Have a great day, add a bird to your life list or make an entry in your phenology chart.

Couldn't agree more, Dave. I'm lucky to have red-tailed hawks regularly 'working' the pasture out my window and pileated woodpeckers living and working in the standing dead trees on an adjoining tract - endless and never boring distractions from the minor (dare I say insignificant?) irritants presented by the electronic age. Then there's the bonus of deer fawning season, watching them play and grow in the pasture.

Yeah, perhaps I'm easily amused and disinclined to irritation about things I can't change. And yes, I choose to not partake in FB and the like .... that choice having little if anything to do with 'tracking' per se.

To the original topic, it strikes me that what ETI does with their website is totally up to them; I can understand them electing to stay at 'arms-length' from this forum, and in my experience anyone researching Escape Trailers will quickly find the good resource of this forum just as I did totally independent of ETI's website or anything on social media.

Oh, Alf give it a brake! Or should that be break? That's the most misapplied word I've seen on fora especially those involving vehicles, when referring to what stops you as a "break"

I found the Escape Forum back in 2014 specifically because of the link on Escape's website. A shame it isn't featured now. Whether you take or leave Facebook, it's format just doesn't lend itself to being a repository of knowledge about all things Escape, and it never will be. Not the best decision by ETI.
