He's one of the great musical gifts given to the world by Canada. Bryan Adams, not so much...[emoji1787]

One of my favourite Lightfoot songs is "Song for a Winters Night". Ironically he wrote that in mid summer.

Long a fan of Mr Lightfoot, way back in 1973 he happened to take a seat next to me at a small piano bar in Honolulu Hawaii when he was in town for a performance (which I attended) and some relaxation. Just as one would expect, a nice guy when off the stage, too.

Thanks for the many great tunes, RIP Gordon Lightfoot.

Yes, he definitely nailed those songs. End of an era.

If you’re ever in the top end of the upper peninsula in Michigan I would encourage you to visit the Edmund Fitzgerald museum/memorial. Worth the miles in my opinion. Sobering for sure.

Haven't heard anything of his, so I can't comment.

It's impossible to see that title and not hear the song it came from. Same with many of the others listed in the replies above. He was definitely an icon. Fortunately we have his music to remember him by.

CBC Documentary

I stumbled across this interesting documentary on CBC's streaming service, GEM, last night. It was made only a couple of years ago, and Gordon was an active participant.
https://gem.cbc.ca/gordon-lightfoot-...my-mind/s01e01

You can watch it with ads in Canada by creating a free account, or with no ads with a modestly-priced paid account.

I don't know if there are limitations for connections from the US.

IMO Canada has gifted the world with such a huge variety of great singer-songwriters that there's no need to dwell or even comment on those that might not fit one's personal tastes.

Among my favorites in addition to Gordon Lightfoot there's Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young .....

My absolutely favorite Gordon Lightfoot song is “Whispers of The North”, off the obscure album Salute. Most people have never heard it. It both gives me chills and nearly brings me to tears. When I learned of Gordon’s passing, I was camped in my Escape in Montana, by a beautiful lake in the mountains. I put my Salute CD into my stereo and listened to it over and over, as a tribute. And cried a few tears.

If you’re a fan, or if you pine for the wilds of northern Canada, listen to it!! You’ll love it. It’s on YouTube.

Yes, great song ! He touched so many with his music. I grew up listening to him. Lucky enough to see him perform live a number of times. I carry a dozen on his CD’s in the trailer.
