storage of trailers

How many store there trailer out side? wondering what the long term affects would be. I know inside storage would be better, but might not be a option for me. I also never had much luck with rv covers

Hi: NEWYORKHILLBILLY... IMHO, escapes are made to be used outside so too, to be stored outside. My DW is always telling me if I want to preserve our 5.0TA put it in a "Museum". Alf

I agree, but outside storage with a roof is better, especially in areas with lots of heat and sun, like here in South Texas. A quick look around at our RV storage facility and it's easy to see the difference that covered storage makes.

We store outside in AZ. Over the years we've found as long as you wax twice a year with a high quality wax like Meguiars Premium Marine, the gel coat stays in great shape.
Don't miss the waxing schedule though or you'll be needing to polish before long.

Having covered storage in snow country is also a nice luxury. Our former fiberglass truck camper used to get pretty beat up during big snow years due to the freeze, thaw cycle where we live. Scott

Temp storage in Calgary

I had a surprise invitation to visit friends in Calgary and will likely be parking the 19 at a local rv storage facility Sptingbank for perhaps a week.
I will empty and turn off fridge, clip doors open, turn off gas and lights, open bathroom vent, open bath and kitchen windows just a bit. Put lock on hitch.
Should I turn the main switch under table to off?
Anything else?

Rodent control question:
I get that when storing trailer, we remove all food products and hint thereof.... but I've stopped using plastic storage containers in my garage, because of chewed bottom corners, and a friend had a break cable chewed through, staying at my house, by a rodent (could see the cute little claw grip marks and teeth grooves). Another friend had the electrical system on her car destroyed by nesting squirrels.

Am wondering what folks do to detract rodents from chewing on components and/or nesting into their trailers, while parked over-winter.

Thanks for any advice/suggestions!

Hmm, didn't think about that. I've been debating as to leaving some items in the trailer.

As for a trailer cover, we are having a wooden shell made and then we will place UV cloth on the top and partial sides. Summers are hot in California Central Valley so UV protection is number one. We get lot of wind and dust, so we need to deal with that. As said in many posts and this one, we plan to keep waxing twice a year.

My 19 has been stored for 3 years outside. I clean and wax constantly, but black streaks return quickly. It's stored right next to an airport and I've heard that aviation fuel might be a cause of the streaks. The place where I store is talking about adding some covered storage for a higher cost. I'm trying to decide how much that would be worth to me.

Hi: JPSpins... We put dryer sheets in the storage bins and cupboards. Keeps the critters at bay and can still be used in the laundromat dryers. Put them in a zip lock baggie when you restock the trailer. Alf

A storage lot is the one place I would remove batteries for mounted on the tongue, remove propane bottles, and lock the wheels with a chain to prevent losing the trailer, not so much the wheels. For a week I wouldn't bother with the spare tire.

Stop being your friend and staying away from your house would be my advice......

We camped in the Arizona Mts. this winter, and observed several campers and trailers with LED rope lights all the way around their rigs on the ground. We've also seen vehicle hoods up and LED lighting around the vehicles. Initially it was a puzzle for us, but it turns out that it is to deter rodents from chewing on wiring and other plastic components.
