I respectfully disagree! The "safest route" is to have your camper delivered to your doorstep. We had to swallow hard when we wrote the check for delivery, but given a completion date in mid-Winter coupled with our desire to have it in time for an early Spring rally, the uncertainty of winter weather between Chilliwack and Alabama, and other conflicting and complicating personal obligations, we chose to have our new 21' delivered to us. The good news is it should be in pristine condition with zero miles on it, and less winter wear and tear on our tow vehicle, when it is unloaded in our driveway. Right or wrong, good or bad, that's the "safe route" we chose. We'll still get to Chilliwack some day - when the weather is nice, the roads are clear and we can enjoy a leisurely trip.

Living in the part of the US that gets 150"-200" of snow each winter, I have some experience driving in snow. For those that have not driven a vehicle with real snow tires on all 4 wheels, it does make a difference. The "All Weather" tires sold today don't do snow any near as well as real snow tires.

As to ice, I hate it. We often spent much of mid winter driving on an inch or two of hard packed snow with no problems, but just a little ice will even stop experienced north country drivers. My only accident was caused by a patch of ice on a dry road.

As to snow being beautiful, there is a wonderful bit with various names - here is a link to one of them - "Diary of a Snow Shoveler". Might be the reason I'm currently in Quartzsite rather than Oswego!

So very true, Jon. It was a patch of ice that caused and accident that took my son-in-laws life while driving a big rig near a year ago, and he was very experienced in driving under all conditions.

Snow, packed or not, driven with caution is no problem.

Well, crap, to put it mildly. I've been watching Siskiyou thinking that it was looking good, getting cleared very quickly etc. We're hoping to leave here on Friday which puts us through Portland on Saturday morning.

What do you mean by "surface streets"? Does that include highways under Federal jurisdiction and responsibility to clear even if Portland itself is lacking in street clearing equipment.

All state roads, including I-5, I-405, I-205, I-84, Hwy 26. The Feds don't clear our roads. Portland Department of Transportation does the work. ODOT doesn't even come into the city for this.

Remember: This isn't just for highways. Surface streets like Powell Boulevard, Southwest Barbur Boulevard and 82nd Avenue are, indeed, state roads.

Actually, Dave, the truck driver has to drive through the same weather and he too may become delayed. I believe he drives East as far as he can in Canada and then drops down in Manitoba to go south. Having had 2 Escapes delivered, it will not be in pristine condition, it will be dirty and depending on its position on the trailer, the front or rear and sides will be covered with bugs and salt other road debris. A good wash however will bring back the shine. Good luck and give Dave a tip for bringing it to you in the winter, he deserves it.

I Couldn't agree more, Mike & Donna, We've only been to New Orleans 3 times, but each time, at least one visit to Central Grocery. Last time, we bought one to-go. We ate 1/4 each for lunch, and 1/4 each on the plane ride home.....MMMM! 23 years ago, we mail ordered a dozen full size sandwiches and added them to our Buffett for our oldest daughters H.S. Graduation Party. They were the hit!!!

Is Dave the driver who likes Italian food? We have a couple really great Italian restaurants nearby if he has the time for us to treat him to dinner. The one coming to Tennessee is a 19'. We know the people very well.

I don't know if a 21' would fit on Dave's truck if he still has the same one. It will probably be on the trailer.

This just posted on one of our major news stations KATU: Gov. Brown declares a state of emergency for Oregon. . One of my friends lives just southwest of me about 5 miles as the crow flies, she just posted on Facebook, it's snowing AGAIN (or still) at her house!

I JUST got in the house about 10 minute ago from shoveling the front steps, part of the driveway and the sidewalk!

I am sure that it will be worth every cent to you to get that trailer delivered instead of going up there. Even in several weeks in the summer, we seemed to need more time for the return. You can have a good trip later. Just wash the dirt off and enjoy your trailer.

Wow! Well, we made it to Seven Feathers Casino. Maybe we can head to the coast when we get to Salem and go around Portland. We have extra days buffered in. Don't have our orientation date unto Jan 16th.
