5.0TA Landing Gear Motor Access

If power is lost to the 2017 and on 5.0TA landing gear motor(s) the access to hand crank them down or up is behind the side panels of the front storage compartment above the propane bottles compartment. The side panels are held on by several screws. To make it easier to access the landing motor compartments should the need arise, I installed a couple of marine hatches in the side panels. I purchased the hatches on Amazon.ca for about $30 each. I’m not going to go into detail on the installation as it is straight forward. The crank is a 3/4” hex on the top of the Landing gear motor on 2017 and newer models. On pre 2017 models the crank access is two covered round ports on the front of the 5.0 either side of the propane compartment.

Now this is a great idea! I don’t need the extra storage but I’ve always fretted about access if I really needed it. Added to my list.

That looks like a great idea Jesse, thanks!
Not having my 5.0 yet to poke around in, how would someone access those cranks without your mod?

You would have to have a Robinson screw driver and remove all the screws on the side panels, then take them out of the storage area. Somewhat time consuming especially if your already stressed about the landing gear not working.

Do you happen to have the part number for that hatch?

Hi: Jesse... I'm one of the lucky ones with the 5.0TA "Portholes" in place beside the propane compartment. The only time my landing gear didn't function was self inflicted. The kill switch got flipped off by the umbilical cord being shoved into the compartment on our '07 5.0. It takes a long time to wind the landing gear by hand giving you lots of time to think of why the battery would go dead so fast. Alf

Side question, sorry, but is the storage compartment basically the space under the top step inside the 5.0?

The space under the steps is interior storage and is accessible by flipping up the hinged steps in the trailer. this extends under the top step.

The propane and front storage are in front of the steps, under the loft and between the electric jacks.
There seems to be a lot of unused space in the area that the jacks are located. I've been trying to come up with some ideas to better utilize the space while keeping open access to the jacks.

There are several threads on expanding the front storage of a 5.0 TA
Here is a link to how I did it.https://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f...age-17666.html There is a lot! of usable space in there. I have only done the passenger side. Drivers side is next but has less space because of the outside shower and wireing that would need to be moved

Hi: rmitch... IMHO everything that you store in a 5.0TA, in front of the axles, adds to the pin weight. There's a diet app for that!!! Alf
