As mentioned elsewhere, it is to install it in the bottom step. This would mean that the step would have to be built wider. The grille is 20" wide, so I am likely going with near 22". I am going to confirm this Dec 19 during my Escape visit.
My thought was to have Escape run the 120V cable to a location for a line voltage thermostat, then down to the heater. Am now considering using a low voltage relay like Carl did though.
It may get kicked the odd time, but I imagine it is built to handle this, as even in the toe space of cabinetry, it would get some abuse.
