What's under the bed

In a recent discussion about what's under the carpet in the bed area of newer 5.0's, it's 1.5" of polystyrene foam held in place by strips of paneling that is screwed to plywood decking.

Nice pic, good info.

Maybe worth noting yours is a 2023 model year 5.0, and ETI is known to occasionally use different construction details over time.

FWIW I did go back with my sharp awl and pushing through the carpet on my 2021 I did indeed find the plywood strip running down the middle which I had missed in a prior exploration.

Another piece of info I didn't know/realize is the bed area narrows as you go up, by about 6-7" and I'm not referencing the cabinets in the upper corners. It's about 83" wide at the foot and 76" at the head, again ignoring the corner cabinets.

Thumbs up

Yep, that taper of the loft is readily apparent to my eye from the outside. Though seemingly small that has a huge and pleasing effect on the exterior aesthetics, without it the front would be visually perceived as much more 'boxy / bulky'. Even though only a few inches the difference does aide extreme-turn clearance with shortest pickup beds.

A very well-considered, super functional, and lovely shell design by Reece et al back in the day, a timeless home-run, IMO.
