Wooden Pergo floating floor in their Escape..
I searched and found no posts on this subject, was wondering why no one has added the look of hardwood floors in their Escape. Here is one I did in my last unit.

I have the cork to do mine, I just have to find the time and inclination to get it done is all.

It looks fantastic! Is it actually wood or formica?

Re: Wooden Pergo floating floor in their Escape..
it is a laminated wood product, there is sawdust when you cut it. Tongue and groove assembly makes the joints disappear. It floats on top of floor with molding around perimeter. Have to allow small amount of space for summer/winter expansion/contraction, I used color caulk along one side for that reason.

Re: Wooden Pergo floating floor in their Escape..
My last unit took about 2 boxes, maybe 25 lbs per box. The Escape may only need one box unless some one can give me the exact aisle size then I can get the coverage off an old box I have left in the garage. Here is a closer look, the molding is what holds it down on the floor and it contracts/expands under the moulding. Vinyl floors have been known to crack when they get real cold.

2 more- it took me one day to install and one day to trim and finish the sides.

Wow! Looks terrific! I thought of doing that. I do like my flooring but since I do not have the undercoated insulation, bare feet get cold on those midnight bathroom trips, so I've added throw rugs. I would guess that adding that laminate flooring would tend to eliminate that concern.

The warmth of cork is why I plan to do the cork flooring. Plus, it has a tough polyurethane coating on it too.

Any additional thickness will help with warmth, I buy remnants for $20 and cut them to fit. In in the fall and out in the spring. the laminates are easy to keep clean also.

Re: Wooden Pergo floating floor in their Escape..
Jim, with the Pergo in an RV when somebody spills liquid (a glass of water) do you have to replace the entire floor and molding (assuming the water spread as soon as it hit the floor)?

Re: Wooden Pergo floating floor in their Escape..
No, it does not absorb water, I have left a piece outside in the rain and it appeared to be useable. The only caveat I found was You have to allow for contraction/expansion so you cover one side with molding which hides the expansion gap. I use matching caulk where molding is not feasible.

Re: Wooden Pergo floating floor in their Escape..
So it's an all vinyl product (no wood product)? I wouldn't think there'd be much expansion/contraction in a small area like the floor (compared to a full size room in a home). I assume there's a formula for how much gap you leave based on the s.f. of the area?

Re: Wooden Pergo floating floor in their Escape..
No formula really, You will naturally have some gaps as a result of installation, just a 1/4-3/8" gap around edges. It is a wood product, the top may be impervious but the backing is hardboard. check it out at Home Depot. In my area Ollie's is selling boxes for $15 each vs H/D for $30/ each. I'm going to pick up a couple this week. I think it does 15 s/f per box so 2 boxes should be enough.

Re: Wooden Pergo floating floor in their Escape..
For the vertically challenged, a 3/8" or 1/2" reduction in headroom in the trailer may not be noticeable. For those of us already bending over to move inside the trailer or scraping the ceiling, the loss in headroom from adding the floor is unacceptable. For our 19', our plan is to pick linoleum that we are happy with (if not the factory supplied lino), and we will also be getting the spray foam insulation on the bottom of the trailer. Hopefully our floors will be warm enough in cold weather such that we do not need to consider additional flooring.
By the way, I don't know if it is feasible, but if you are adding another layer of flooring, you could potentially also add some heat strips between the existing and new floors.
regards
dave

Re: Wooden Pergo floating floor in their Escape..
Jim,
Any idea how durable the Pergo is compared to linoleum? We seem to track more leaves, twigs, dust etc. into the trailer than we do at home. Probably natural since we spend more time outside enjoying ourselves. We have a door mat just inside the door, astro-turf like material on the step, and we often put one of the "patio mats" down outside. But we still get more stuff inside. Not a big deal since the floor is easily swept, but on the other hand, I wonder if the wood would get scratched when I have a small rock or twig stuck in the treads of my shoes.
Thanks,
Leon

Re: Wooden Pergo floating floor in their Escape..
I think the stock flooring is more "forgiving" than a laminate floor.

Re: Wooden Pergo floating floor in their Escape..
Leon, we have used whisks but the secret weapon is a little rechargeable battery-operated vacuum. We use that and also sponge-clean after a trip. There is just too much debris to sweep up and the door area is impossible, but a snap with the vac.

Re: Wooden Pergo floating floor in their Escape..
This sounds silly, but I use a hair dryer to blow the dust and small things off the floor and out the door. Doesn't work that well with carpet material, but is a quick cleanup for laminate/linoleum floors.
