No worries if you are using a sharp hole saw, Doug. Just start the pilot bit in at a moderate speed until it goes through, and follow through with the hole saw. It drills quite easily. If you go easy there will be minimal chipping with a sharp saw. Duct tape would be a bad idea I think, because of the stickiness of it, as it would gum up the teeth.
With the first couple revolutions of the hole saw when it starts cutting, it will grab a bit, but fiberglass is fairly hard, so it won't be too bad. The pilot bit will hold it from wandering.
