AC not working

Just got a 21NE. Testing everything and discovered the AC doesn't seem to be working. Camper is plugged into house power, 120v. Set the thermostat to 70F, cool, low fan. The unit kicks on an as per the manual after about 2 min. the condempessor turns on. At that point everything shuts down. All power is out. No error messages that I see and nothing seemingly adverse on the victronix? app. After about 5 min. everything comes back on.

Try a thicker extension cord? Sounds like a low voltage cutoff. That happens when the extension cord is too long or too thin, or the circuit has a similar problem.

Just my guess on what to check

Agreed, and the fan should be set to “Auto.”

Use a 10 gauge extension cord

Agreed with using thicker cord and a short as possible. Maybe check your EMS (if you have one) to see if there is a current (E) or previous (P) error. My AC kicked out on the weekend as there were voltage fluctuations at the post. If you don't have soft-start on your AC, the draw of the compressor kicking in could be overwhelming the circuit, too. Good luck and I hope you get it figured out.

Does your house power offer 30 amp service? My air conditioner requires 30 amps just to start up. I think yours probably does too.

Well, I'll be getting a proper extension cord soon, so I'll try that. As for 30amp from my house. No, I would think not since the standard is what 15-20?

Thanks!

Yeah, most ( and I use that really loosely) house circuits are 20 amp and have an outlets that are rated for 15 amps. That should be enough to run your AC on low, if you don’t have something else drawing significant power.

A run of smaller gauge wire, like 16 or thereabouts, will definitely cause enough voltage sag to cause a problem. It’s all about distance over gauge.
