Thanks Iowa Dave and gbaglo - I've often wondered about the bleach issue. Its strength is as a disinfectant...kills mold, mildew, other little ugly bacterial stuff...but I never understood how it helped with other smalls, aside from just the flushing that could be done with a clean water source by itself. I will try flushing of the hot water tank a few more times. In someone's post of a video link by Suburban I noticed that the demonstrator took out the anode, and inserted a small rubber hose (attached to usual water hose), to stick it inside the chamber and give it a real good targeted flushing. Maybe I'll try to rig up something like that. Thanks for your input, and I still welcome any others.

Thanks, Bea. The water flow might be picking up something there, and I'd never have thought to look for that second screen. Will check it out today. YOU FORUM FOLKS ARE SO SHARP!!

That tank flushing tool is pretty much the cheapest thing you can buy for your RV.

Camco makes a cheap plastic wand that goes on your hose for flushing out the water heater through the anode/drain plug. I use it about once a year to get the calcium crap etc out of the water heater. Don't forget to flush out the city water line as it can harbor antifreeze and nasties too.

Yeah, but why spend $9.98 when I could make my own for five times the price, which would work only half as well!
