E 23 250 amp main battery fuse

I ran into an issue with my main battery fuse on my outing in FL last week. I was experimenting with different heating options. The lows were around 30 degrees F and one night I ran the Houghton heat pump and a 1200-1500 watt cube heater. When both running it was drawing about 2500-2800 watts and worked fine on shore power and the inverter is I started them one at a time. I was running both on shore power over the night and awoke with no power at all in the trailer. After some trouble shooting I found the next camp site over had switched off my camp site breaker when leaving her camp site. After turning the breaker back on all seemed fine until I removed shore power and I had no DC or inverter power. Further trouble shooting lead to finding the main DC 250 amp breaker in the line after the DC power switch blown. I assume the surge to the inverter power after shore power dropped blew the fuse. I replaced the fuse with one from the auto parts store and all is well. I will be carrying as spare in the trailer from now on.

Just curious, what 'format / type' is that 250A fuse?

(FWIW / IMO your diagnosis of an inverter demand surge with all that load turned on at transfer to the inverter sounds reasonable and not too surprising).

It might be interesting to delve into the literature for your (Victron?) inverter and battery bank to see what the 'limiting link in the chain' is with regard to safely handling short-duration inverter demand surges in that system.

It might be the short-duration battery discharge rate, the short-duration inverter rating, or even the size of the cable between them installed by ETI.

It seems that ETI has perhaps 'upped their game' lately insofar as such things, but it's possible they still have not 'optimized' the system for the maximum safe short-duration inverter demand surge that the components are capable of handling.

A carefully considered minor 'tweak', guided by Victron criteria, might improve your system's ability to safely and better accommodate the surge situation you encountered.

Though I can certainly understand you may be loath to tinker with any of that on your brand-new-in-warranty trailer.
