Escape 21C modification to bed headboard

Has anyone removed the narrow shelf above the head of the bed of a 21C ? See attached picture. We just purchased 2021 21C and are thinking of removing this shelf and adding a tapered cushion so we can sit there with our backs against the wall and read. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I did a headboard mod after MaryF posted she had done it. See Post 16.

Am going to try a different way of remounting the L brackets to the plywood bed surface as it is a PITA to remove headboard otherwise. I needed to do it to replace the trailer umbilical cord and where the junction box is wasn't accessible enough for me so I pulled up the half of the plywood bed surface closest to the bathroom.
Doing it over I will mount the nylock nuts before replacing the pllywood and probably leave the nuts off most, if not all the third L bracket closest to the driver's side. I first undid just those nut, however the headboard covered up the one wood screw at the head of the plywood so I won't be reinstalling that one either.

I'll post some pictures to better show how this was done; MaryF was kind enough to answer about 3-4 PM's back in 2015. It was a fun and relatively simple mod.

We have a 19, but use a couple of study pillows. It’s very comfortable for us. We refer to them as pour BarcaLoungers. We say we are going to Barca when we relax there.

I wanted a front window so no shelf. But it's handy to have somewhere near the top of the bed for small items, like glasses, that you want to keep handy.

So I installed a couple of overhead cubbies, very handy.

Also, I found reaching up to the lights was a bit of a stretch so I relocated the lights to the underside of the cubbies.

I did a tilting headboard that was hinged at the top so it folded flat against the wall when we were not using it in our 19.
You can see what I did here in the link:
