Fridge vent - open holes okay?

Hi there, here are two photos of our fridge vent, taken from the sky looking down onto the roof. There are four small holes that have some calking substance over them. Three of the four are still open, but one is plugged. Any idea if this is normal? Thanks!

That’s where the screws are to remove the vent - typically #2 Phillips. Often the holes are filled with a non adhesive butyl or self leveling Dicor caulk to keep water from standing there, but be easy to remove.

The holes should be sealed. If you remove the screws you'll see why. The screws allow water to drain past them and they're not s/s and get rusty.

You can see here what will happen to the cheap screws if exposed to water. If you are recaulking anyway if it were me and I would extract them all and exchange for stainless steel and then recaulk.

At firsr I thought that you might have linked the photos that I posted a few years ago. Mine were more rusty. I was surprised at the lack of adhesion in the caulking. Actually, there didn't seem to any adhesion at all, not great for keeping the water out.

Thanks all - I was mostly concerned that one of the four holes appears to be fully plugged, while the other three had openings. The caulking appears in good shape still, I just queried if all four holes should be fully filled/sealed.

Sounds like inside the three opening holes I would find a gob of dried caulk over the screw head and, as long as it is sealing, it should be good. Do I have that right?

I wouldn’t just assume they are sealed. I’d fill them. You don’t want standing in there.
