Holes in Awning

Has anyone had this issue? I have tiny holes starting in my manual awning. I have a 2021 19 foot Escape.

Something scratched it?

Given the linear path of the damage, that would be my guess. What caused it is your guess. Your damage doesn't appear to be thru "holes", but an abraded inner coating of the awning material.

I've sealed abraded areas on my awning underside with this material. It's clear, but not invisible. My damaged areas are random, small and scattered about.

It's widely available, a urethane based sealant, chemically cures with water vapor from the air and is tough, durable stuff. Just make sure it's well cured before you roll up the awning. That could take an afternoon, to be safe.

Also, be sure your repair area is clean. I see mildew in your photos. Tsk, tsk.

I don’t know about that. I can see blue sky through some of the holes.

I don't know either

There is a graphic design, as I recall, on the exterior side of the awning. I may be dead wrong. I haven't seen my awning unfurled in 6 months, so I'm just going by recollection.

Either way, the sealant can work well. Apply it to both sides of the material.

Looking at blowups of the images again.....I see white.....not blue.....or sky.

If I'm 'reading' the pics right, that's the underside surface of the material which is exposed to the environment and contact with too-close tree branches when the awning is stowed, is that correct?

My 2020 is also showing a few spots similar to your, they are all at the top when retracted.

The material can't be that hard to change when the time comes.

If those holes are close to the trailer side it could be where the awning starts to wrap around the cassette when retracting.

Agreed. In the bottom picture, it looks like part of the torn surface coating is "bunched up", as if something had scraped it from right to left.

We ordered some (clear) repair tape for ours. (Not sure from where, at this point; but I’ll try to find out for you. I think there was some left, if I can find it…) Anyway, we removed the awning material from its track, laid it out on our driveway, and applied the tape (top side only). It’s held up for several years, which is a nice surprise.

Search for Awning Repair Tape.

Yeah, that repair tape works great - I put some on my awning on our old Burro and it held up for 5 years - still holding when I sold it.

Well it appears it was scraped. I'm not sure what hit it because no other damage. That area does stick further out than anywhere else. I think it might have been done where it was being stored. I appreciate all the answers.

Hi: hugh... Here in the "Great white north" we have an awning repair kit . Can't remember the name but it's a peel and stick clear vinyl tape. It's been stuck on mine for years. I put it on the underside and it only shows when the man. awning is fully extended. Alf

Yes, looks to be a scrap, even a tree branch could do that. I have one spot that leaked. As I quick fix(on the road) Clear Gorilla Tape, I had on hand. Doesn't break down like most other tapes. But, yes there are tapes for RV roof repairs too.
