Lagun table disappointment

We have a 21NE F2 (two dinettes) with two Lagun tables. They are not as easy to move as we thought they would be. Really a hassle in the end. Any other options for tables that are easy to move for getting in and out of the dinette?

I have absolutely no problem with the pedestal trailer and plastic slides that ETI was installing in 2015. I did, however, find that the pedestals did not grip very well and i was frequently pounding the table down with my fist, so i installed (aftermarket) a Springfield pedestal. It allows the table to rotate (when unlocked) and the slide is oriented front to back when not rotated. Neither I nor my spouse have difficulty getting in or out. If you do not use the table as an additional bed, you could reduce the table size or build a table with leafs.

Underneath, on the connection between the vertical post and the horizontal post, there is a little arm to tighten that connection.

When tight it make it hard to rotate. When loose it swings freely. I adjust all of those connections for the best vertical and horizontal holding.

Ours work flawlessly.

Guessing that the issue is the spring loaded slip bolt handles. We snug the up just enough to create friction so that the table stays in place while we used the table. It does not take much.

Only tightened them extra snug while rotating the table against the back cushions while underway.

We’re leaving the handles completely loose and it’s still hard to move (and sagging). What are we doing wrong?

I would first check the mounting bolts at the base to get to the bottom of any sagging. There are only a few places with mechanical connections that might allow sagging.

If the posts that the clamps compress on have too much friction when the bolts are loose, I would remove the posts from the clamps and inspect them for burrs or any sticky stuff. Wipe them down with a good cleaner and reinstall.

The handles are normally loose, press the button to pull the handle to engaged, then loosen.

Interesting data point:

I'm not sure if our 21C has the same table you're talking about, but my wife cannot get the table to move left/right/forward/back while I have no problem moving it around/adjusting its position. My guess is that she's pushing down too hard whereas I'm exerting lateral force only. I suggest experimenting with how you apply force to the table top.

Hope you find this helpful.

Also, if you clamp it down too tight, the inner bushing will crack leading to a sagging table. We tighten to just barely snug and the table moves easily. It is also easy to remove with just a bit of loosening on the clamp. Mine is attached to my own tabletop.

We love our Lagun table system. Once we figured out how to operate the friction levers and got the muscle memory down, it is a breeze to use.

Springfield Report

Hi, we had ETI install the Springfield pedestal in our 2016 21C and it has served us very well since. No issues raising/lowering and rotates nicely for access/egress. The stock table slide setup from ETI at the time works great for our purposes for front to back positioning.

I wonder if the table size plays a role?

The Lagun mount works great on the dinette table in my E19, which is roughly 24"x30".

The same table installed at either dinette location in the 21NE will be substantially larger/heaver - 42"x34" or thereabouts. That's even quite a bit bigger than the 21C/5.0....which I think is around 28"x34".

Not sure about weight, but I know my E19 table is heavier than the stock E19 table, and works fine.

Wow. Our table is basically twice the size and weight as yours. That is the most logical answer and easy to test when we get home. Whatever we end up with it’s going to include a removable table and separate boards for when making up the bed. We have a truck with shell so swapping and storage is not an issue.

Frankly, I think ETI should recommend against the Lagun with a large table such as ours. It’s just too hard to use. Don’t get me wrong, we think ETI makes a quality product but offering data regarding ease of use and suitability is just good customer service. There’s a few other issues on our brand new $50k (USD) trailer that, while not major, shouldn’t IMHO be there at all: sand and grit coming through closed bathroom vent while driving; sliding windows in kitchen and bathroom that tip and wobble when opening and closing; luggage hatch locks that are nearly impossible to insert a key or turn once you have finally got the key in; a sewer hose with fitting on only one end. And don’t get me started on the kitchen drawers that are a wrestling match to open or close . No big deal but not what we were expecting based on ETI’s reputation.

Given that there's been so many folks singing praises about the Lagun table base I'd be surprised that ETI was even aware that a few folks found it unsuitable.

I agree. We didn’t read anything about this problem so we were very surprised. Regardless, it’s still very awkward to move and it never sits level. I think there’s just too much weight cantilevered out from the back pivot. It’s only a clamp on a plastic sleeve assembly.
