Ram 1500 Class III Bumper Hitch

We are looking at purchasing a Ram 1500. It comes with a class III bumper hitch. Is that suitable with a 19'?

Should work. Here's part of what Escape emails when you schedule a pickup:

Quote:
All Tow Vehicles must be ready for Hookup prior to orientation appointment

Your tow vehicle will require:

Wiring for 7 pin RV plug
Brake controller
Class III Hitch installation

Bumper mount is marginal. You really need a frame mount so that you can use a weight distributing system if required. Classic Ram 1500 is notoriously soft on the back end. I don't know about the newer upgraded models.

A bumper hitch is merely a ball thru a hole in your bumper.
You want a frame mounted hitch that is below your bumper and has greater towing capacity. Are you sure of the nomenclature? Bumper vs integral frame and brake controller set up?

The factory installed Ram hitch receiver is welded to and integral to the frame, it is not a bumper hitch, and it is more than adequate for any of the Escape trailers.

I couldn't tell from the photos on their website if it had a receiver hitch, or just the bumper hitch that is mentioned on the Monroney sticker.
If it doesn't have a receiver hitch then you would want to add one so that you can change the rise and/or drop of the ball height so the trailer rides level, plus you would need a receiver type hitch if you want to use a weight distribution hitch with your camper.
I suspect that it also has at least a Class III receiver hitch since the Tradesman comes standard with one, and their brochure says that the Big Horn has all the items listed on the Tradesman, plus some.
