Reattaching frameless bathroom window

Last year the bathroom window became detached from the metal bar that holds it in place. I used some clear double back adhesive tape but it eventually stopped working. Ended up duct taping the window closed, which isn't a permanent solution. We just tried some Gorilla double back tape that's rated for outdoor use. Nope, didn't even last as long as the clear stuff.

Any suggestions on what to use? I hardly ever open that window, but I sure don't need it flapping around while driving down the road.

Thanks folks!

Got an email from ETI stating in their experience it can't be fixed but needs to be replaced. Oh great. I never found anyone that would replace the fire escape window when it was broken by a rock thrown by the lawn mower all those years ago. ETI did replace that, but they probably don't any longer.

Dirk says he's thought of a mechanical way to fix it since I don't open that window hardly ever. We'll see what he comes up with. Will post photos or whatever when he does.

I seem to recall there were a lot of problems with this window soon after the trailers were made. Guess it's now my turn, some years down the road.

I've had great success with 3M VHB tape.
https://www.amazon.com/Width-Length-.../dp/B07K4PQG8P

Clean both the glass and the metal with alcohol, let dry, and then apply the tape. You can trim the tape to match the metal bar shape with scissors. Be sure you have the two parts where you want them as the VHB is really permanent.

I work in the fenestration industry and suggest that you seek out a local glass supply shop or residential window manufacturer. See if you can procure a small qty of the industry-specific tape used to adhere metal muntin bars to exterior window glass.

A specific application procedure will need to be followed and a special adhesion promoter may also need to be applied to teh glass prior. However, if done correctly, I don't think you would have to worry about the window detaching again......

See link below for an example product:

Yeah, well, I'd change it but going to "edit avatar" just lets me change the photo. Edit signature - elsewhere. edit details - nope. can't find where to edit the info UNDER the photo of Spike.

There are several threads that mention epoxy, clear silicon and "lexel" repairs.

On ours, the window will not fully-close without excessive tension. So, I will be addressing that issue and correcting the installation before re-attaching the operator channel to the glass.

JB

Ours detached back in 2017. I used JB Weld to reattach it “temporarily”. Escape sent a replacement and it’s still sitting in the garage because the JB Weld is still holding. I don’t want to jinx it but It’s been 4 years and about 15,000 miles so far. I kinda wish I’d been more careful and made it look nicer but you know, it was “temporary”.

Clear 100% silicone adhesive works great, Plenty strong on glass, I have resealed many aquariums in my time and several that were so large you had to get inside them to do the work!

My bathroom window came loose and I removed old adhesive from both surfaces and cleaned both with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Remover and then applied new VHB tape and it’s been fine since. Of course, I don’t crank the windows down so tight anymore.
