Rock Guard & Window Installation

Got this beauty delivered Tuesday!

My 17 B came with a custom aftermarket double pane front window for cold weather. No rock guard. The seal has moved allowing moisture between the window panes. We considered fixing this but decided we just want the stock set-up.

Anyone have experience installing a front window and rock guard?

It appears the old window simply gets unscrewed from the trailer window frame and the new one installed.

Any suggestions on sealant to use on top of the window frame where it meets the fiberglass exterior?

$420 USD (included installation of matching graphic, $40 crate fee and $80 shipping). I thought this was quite reasonable.

Joel,
I need to replace the front window and rock guard on my 2012 Escape 15. Can you let me know which vendor supplied your window? Many thanks for any help.

Did they supply you with any butyl tape? I normally use butyl tape for this type of situation. If not, it's readily available.

A couple of precautions. Yes, the unit is held in place by the clamping action of the inner frame to the outer frame. Be careful about over tightening the screws. They're sheet metal screws going into relatively thin aluminum. It's possible to strip the threads with too much force.

Also, the butyl tape, while providing an excellent seal will squeeze out too much if the screws are over tightened. Not a complete disaster but visually not good and cleaning the squeezed out material is a bit of a nuisance.

A small bead of proflex can be used. It helps avoid black streaks when water runs down and over the butyl. But it's not absolutely required.

I purchased the window and rock guard kit directly from Escape. I thought it was a reasonable price shipped to the US. Hopefully they have a 2012 model for you.

Used ProFlex RV sealant on the top seam above the window and 1/4 way down the sides of the window (not pictured in my post). Beware, this stuff is like sticky frosting and can’t be smoothed like silicon caulking. You may want to practice applying it to some practice joints before committing to attempt a smooth bead on your newly installed window.

Used silicone weather stripping sourced from Home Depot or Lowes for internal sealing.

Good luck! It’s a fun project.

Here’s my install with pics on this thread, post #50:
