Table leg base deforming fiberglass

I noticed that the stock table leg base seems to be deforming the fiberglass underneath trailer. Should I be worried and what should I do to fix it?

The first thing that I'd investigate is whether the screws are too long. Remove them one at a time and check the length that they protrude through the base. Shouldn't be more than a 1/2".

I understand the shorter screws- will get on that right away. But why would that create a round deformation in the fiberglass? Is it possible that the sliding action of the table top, by causing the leg to flex, cause it?

Yes, do check the screw length. It wouldn't be the first time that the wrong length screws were used. Some folks have had the ends of the screws poking out the bottom.

From your description it sounds like the deformation is several inches in diameter. That could still be consistent with too long screws pushing on the f.g.

The only way force on one side of the table could cause something like that would be if the plywood wasn't firmly adhered to the f.g. and was flexing and pushing on the f.g.

I'd check the screw length and then have one person put some pressure on one edge of the table while another observed from underneath to see if there's any visible movement in the f.g.

Ok. Screws replaced. Now, how much repair do I need to fix the cracks from the too-long screws? Just some sealant or drill out some fiberglass and fill with epoxy?

There are many paths

Can you provide a photo of the cracks? How long were the screws you removed?
Whatever, don't rush your repair. Duct tape would suffice, temporarily.
A photo is crucial to any evaluation.

Just saw the photos in your post.

A dab of sealant caulk would be adequate. Dicor seems to be used a lot and by Escape, I believe. This is not structural damage, cosmetic only, and not seen by anyone still standing upright.
If you want to make the issue visually disappear, that's a whole 'nother story.

My E19 has a bunch of missing gel coat defects, probably from pulling the 1/2 from the mold at construction. All underneath the cabin, invisible unless you crawl underneath. No big issue to me.

What type of table leg is it.

Damage seems pretty far apart for the two pole setup and I know on the Springfield they use insert to screw into to mount it.

Just wondering....

See post #6. It was too long screws.

I agree, it's not structural, it's out of sight and pretty well anything that seals the small holes is OK.
