I think maybe there was some kind of automotive announcement in that radical rant, but I’m not really sure.

Just bought a new one October, so let's hope I'm set for 20 years. I was figuring the CAFE standards would cause me to get priced out, which is why I took the plunge now. Interestingly enough my RAM HEMI 5.7L has an economy sticker of 21 highway, 19 city (probably isn't that good in the city but that's what they have) and a new Ford 3.5L V6 turbo is only listed as 19/17.

Not sure where that 2021 F-150 3.5L Ecoboost mpg figure came from, but we’re shopping for a truck now and I pulled up a window sticker for a 3.5L Ecoboost SuperCrew 4x4 XLT (302A trim level) with an mpg rating of 23/17. For giggles, I also pulled up a window sticker for what I believe would be a comparable 2021 Ram 1500 5.7L HEMI Quad Cab 4x4 Big Horn that shows an mpg rating of 21/15. As they say, though, YMMV (literally).

The Hemi in my 2014 Ram engages cylinder deactivation to eek out additional MPG, I can not recall if that happens in the "tow mode" or not. It has been awhile since I have been towing.....

I didn't realize that emissions regulations were 'tyrannical oppression'. The analogy of attempts to slow global climate change to the story of Icarus was a new one for me, and frankly I'm not sure I grasp it. Collective action is 'flying too high'? And not being able to purchase a hemi engine from Stellantis is effectively having one's wing wax melt off? Or am I missing something?
Also, considering this writer probably projects himself as an automotive journalist, he doesn't seem to know much about the business (e.g. suggestion that Stellantis should make every powertrain a hybrid).
Anyways, somewhere in all that is the news release that Stellantis is discontinuing the hemi engine in 2023.

Tow/haul mode will feel different due to changes in the transmission shift points but it isn’t disabling the cylinder deactivation (what RAM calls MDS). Of course if you search the various forums there are ways guys have figured out how to bypass it because they don’t like the lag when it is reactivating.

Ha no doubt! I kept expecting the writer to get off his soapbox and begin with the story and then suddenly the article was over.

3.5 ecoboost
We have the Ford Expedition with a 3.5 eco with a 3.31 rear end EPA =17 city/23hwy
We actually get a little better 24-27 mpg at 65 mph about 17-19 city Naples Fl.
So far so good with mileage BTW. 12-14 mpg towing a E21
At 56 k we have had a phaser recall and needed a water pump all done under warranty I love this Truck SUV 🚙

Thanks for making me read that. Wow. Nothing informative about the GME-T6. Oh well.
ETA: Here is a slightly better article that makes it clear that the performance cars will going all EV in the future, not turbo six.

Hi: cpaharley2008... Keeping it till the wheels fall off comes to mind. Besides we'll be battling the "EV" by then. Alf

You are correct. I went back and looked and I read it wrong for the Ecoboost. It was 23/19/17 (highway/combined/city).

There are videos out there showing this Tesla 3 / Airstream setup. Not to be a pessimist but it seems that if there was an accident the lawyers would have a field day with claiming negligence since the Tesla 3 is only rated to tow 2000# and that trailer is probably 6000# dry. If people are injured no one is going to care about how well you said it tows. That said, I commend this guy for his experience and pushing the limits of an EV. This is really free R&D for Tesla.

Hi: rubicon327... That's the very unit I snapped in Niagara Falls. It's owned by the CEO of CanAm trailers who lives near us. They are well known for towing things you& I wouldn't!!! I asked him if they made a super special hitch for the rig and he said NO!!! They did add aero solar panels and wheel covers though. Alf

What year Expedition? I'm toying with getting one to replace our 2002 F250 longbed pickup, primary use towing the Escape, secondary use, hauling my astronomy gear. primary motivations: 1) the F250 has a HORRIBLE turning radius, 2) the F250 7.3 diesel is quite noisy.
btw, I thought the Expeditions with the tow package had a 3.73 rear end?

That is what my 2019 Expedition has. Big upgrade in on-demand power and comfort with IRS vs. Yukon. Small increase in towing mpg.

Which package do you have? I'm trying to find a 2018-2020 FX4 mild offroad version with 18" wheels, they are /very/ rare. Virtually all of them around these parts have 20 or 22" wheels, ugh.
edit: OH, could you post (or PM) me a pic of your weight sticker that shows GVWR, GAWR, and payload ? Is it the SWB or Max LWB version?

Have the XLT with 202A package which gives me what I want with the Limited trim without the Panoramic Sunroof(which is standard on Limited & Platinum). Being a CA car of course it has the 20" wheels because that is where the demand is with the 202A package. May go to 18" when I replace OEM Toyo Open Country which is probably the best OEM tire I've had on a SUV.
Don't buy a 2018 for two main reasons: 1. Cam Phaser link was upgraded in June 2019 and the 2018's have a stupid plastic oil pan with drain valve that is a nightmare. Fortunately they ditched that on the F-150/Expedition for 2019.
My sticker says 1667 for payload on my 4x2 regular(not Max) Expedition.
