Turning clearance for 5.0TA with F-150 5.5' bed?

Does anyone have experience with towing a 5.0TA with a F-150 Crew Cab with a 5.5' bed? I tried a forum search but only got an error message because of all the numbers.

I'm wondering if this setup is at all practical because it seems one couldn't turn very sharply without the trailer hitting the cab, but I could be wrong. The 2022 F-150 Lightning EV will only come in this configuration so the answer to this question might be interesting to the folks who don't do long-range towing and are looking at an EV.

Thanks

Ed

The 5.0 was designed around the F150 and other brand 1/2 ton trucks.. Search the forum archives... Many peeps tow with this configuration, no problem at all.

This was one of Reace's first posts about towing the brand new 5.0TA and his Ford F-150

More ETI promotional pics, not a 2022, but an F150 CrewCab with 5.5ft box (the F150 cab and box dimensions relating to your cab clearance question have not changed since at least 2005).

Note that your hitch selection may alter the pivot-point, and thereby cab clearance, by a few inches +/-.

Solid proof that you have no worries.. The F150 5/5 bed is probably the most common vehicle towing a 5.0... All the brands work just as well... IOW.. run what ya brung!...

Many 5.0 owners have touched / dented their cabs , the pictures shown address how far you can go without touching the cab, probably wont touch the cab when in a tight turn moving forward, but yes it does happen when reversing.
Here are some I found with a quick search in the forum:

"I put a dent in my cab. No biggie, but I wish I had not done it"

"Only issue we have had is when we are backing into a space not-level and make an extreme turn 90 we can hit our truck on top by the window i have a tiny dent so when backing into extreme turns you really have to watch."

"I have the dent in the cab next to the stop lamp to prove it!!!"

I have the rail mounted Andersen and mounted it farther back than the "CUSTOM MOUNTS" do, this has worked out just fine for me (as well as others).

This thread shows an example of moving the hitch point back 4".

This is a good point: a towing setup should not be able to reach interference between the tow vehicle and trailer in the tightest possible forward turn, but any setup can be jackknifed to the point of hitting in reverse. This is true of both conventional ("bumper pull") trailers and those hitched in the truck bed (using a fifth-wheel or ball hitch).
