I have an old broken torque wrench to use as a breaker bar.

That makes sense - it probably ratchets (maybe still ratchets?), and is probably longer than a typical 1/2" drive ratchet handle.

Yes, but it will be too short. 3/8" drive torque wrenches are usually not very long, and the point of a breaker bar (or flex handle) is to have enough length for good leverage.

Brian,
You probably haven't seen the guns Alf has on him. I mean that man's got a set of wings.

Now I know who to go to if I'm around the North Shore of Lake Erie with a stuck bolt and a too-short wrench!

Hi: Iowa Dave... Thanks for the build up!!! I've never pumped iron but nearly 20 yrs. winding the big spring on the buses made a difference.
I finally got a 1/2 drive torque wrench at Crafty Tar. Paid the 2 bucks more for it then went for a deep 21mm socket... They're out of stock. SHEESH!!! Alf

I'm impressed. I had my brakes checked shortly after I picked up my trailer, and the guy did it for no charge. I asked about the charge for adjusting brakes and packing wheel bearings and he said it would be about $400 for 4 wheels. This was a truck repair place. Seemed like a lot to me. Where do people have this work done, and for how much?

Local RV dealer/repair shop did mine last year. Wasn't quite $400, but it wasn't cheap. I seem to recall $80/wheel, or thereabouts.

Have mine repacked at a local garage that actually works on cars, not trailers.
I think he does it as a favour. I call and take it in if he is not busy.
Paid about $65 to repack two wheels and adjust brakes.

I had the bearings checked and repacked by my long time car mechanic, he had me pick up the new seals at the local rv supply, $140. The brakes I adjusted myself so didn't ask for them to be done.

Hi:All... Sounds like I have a gem here. My RVTech charges $39. per axle + $12. for seals+tx. on the total bill. During the repack he cleans and adjusts the brakes. Hope he continues in business for a long time. Helps that he built his new shop on his home/ property. Alf

Wish my guy wasn't located on a busy four-lane. I have to pull into on-coming lanes and back up across two. Have about a foot clearance either side backing into the garage.

I'm lucky--I take it out to escape--when I am usually there to get other mods done...Can't remember the price--but worth it to me..(and to Doug who does not want to do this job)

Hub Cap Removal Tool
I know this has been posted before, but bears repeating. For those picking up or having their trailers delivered, it is important to check the tension on the lug nuts. Dennis at ETI says 90-95 lbs. (I use 95lbs.). Bring a torque wrench with you, along with a 4-5 inch extension to clear the tire, and a 13/16" socket. The proper frequency is every hundred miles for the first 300 miles, then once a month or before each trip. This little tool helps you pop the hub caps without scratching the white paint on the steel wheels.
Torquing Made Easy!
There are different brands, but this one is made by Lisle, model # 35260 and is called a Plastic Fastener Remover. It is sold at most auto part stores and most hardware stores. I got this one at a Grand Auto in Washington.
