I've run my ac with the 2000i just to see if it would handle it, granted it wasn't 100 degrees when I tried it.
Been debating the need to take it along when we hit Utah for a couple months mid Sept through mid Nov. Will be traveling every 4 or 5 days for a few hours, that and the 160W solar have me thinking I can leave the genny at home.
Running the air is right up there with running the generator, glad we travel in the spring and fall.

After that, we made sure to use it more sporadically when possible and tried to avoid having the A/C on during the night when people are trying to sleep. The DHPSP campground is quite wide open and it is possible that treed sites would have absorbed the sounds better. Of course, with treed sites, you often don't need the A/C.

Another huge noise consideration. I have never had A/C myself, but sure know in a couple campgrounds I was at in Southern Utah, there were a bunch running, and holy crap, a few of them were way more annoying than some of the gen sets I have heard. Plus, there seems to be no restrictions as to when they can be used. I know one next to use ran all night, not allowing me very much sleep.

We always take ear plugs, everything is quiet then. Have had all of the above listed issues to deal with.
Try the plugs they work.

Ear plugs can help, but they don't make noise go away. Bose headphones do much better but they're not that comfortable to sleep with.

I have tried ear plugs before, recommended to help give me more sleep. I tried them for about a week and just could not sleep well with them in. The thing is, for loud stuff at work, I do wear them or ear muffs.

You could try putting your thumbs in your ears. Works for me.

I've been to several US campgrounds with posted generator hours, usually 10-6 quiet times.

Have seen different standards. Most recently at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Campground the quiet hours are 10 PM-6 AM with no distinction for generators. At Lassen Volcanic National Park the hours for generators were from from 7 AM-8 PM however they encouraged limited use of 45 minutes.

I think that's getting to be the norm and the replacement annoying noise is more likely to be a/c's running well into the night. Not so bad in forest type individual sites but when cheek by jowl

Anyone here with a Polar Cub who thinks it is much quieter? Can you actually sleep with it?

Posted quiet times and camp hosts who won't enforce...that sure sounds like material for an interesting thread!

What does a 600 watt Yamaha generator cost in Canada and where in the Vancouver area is the best place to get one?

Your thumbs might work, however most other people try the less silly method.

They are no longer in production, the OP's is something like 20 years old. The smallest Yamahopper I can find is a 1000 Watt.

J Mac, if you are still looking for off brand, amazon.ca has an 800w that might do?

If noise is a consideration, running a smaller generator near its capacity can be a lot noisier than a larger unit at a lower speed. For example the Honda 1000W and 2000W generators have the same 59 db rating at full throttle, but the 2000W is probably half as loud when recharging just the trailer batteries. In hind sight I was so glad we opted for the larger unit, plus it will run our air conditioner in the new Escape.

You sure about that? I checked my eu2000i with my meter once upon a time and if I recall correctly it was 59 at low idle and considerably more at full.

I was just going by the specifications for the two Honda units. What I am sure of is how much quieter it runs when charging our trailer batteries vs at maximum speed which I'm sure it will be running if we ever use it to run the AC. On the Honda website the decibel difference between full power and 1/4 power was listed as 6, which on a logarithmic scale is significant. One source had 6 db equating to double the sound pressure level.
