I'm within about 40 miles of the absolute path of total totality. The highways are liable to be so jammed packed the best viewing may be on a big screen TV! I already know any camping in a reasonable driving distance is long gone. People are kinda acting strange about this....

Turning themselves into pretzels trying to find a place to camp for something that lasts less than 5 minutes. Following some of the groups on Facebook and other forums, it's like a comedy

If you found a place to camp within your daily budget and you're happy.. good for you, truly

My son was 8 years old when he went to Hawaii with my husband to the solar eclipse and it affected him deeply. Every year they would mark the anniversary and even when Jake grew up and moved out he would call on the day. Astronomers are humbled by the experience.

I usually consider myself a worrywort, so I laughed over this.

This time around, I'm not worrying about whether we actually see it or not. As there isn't one fricking thing I can do about it! (Same situation with many other things I worry about, but not this one.)

Now, we won't get started on the traffic heading down there or freaking out over how many people will actually be at the SolarFest in Madras Oregon. Or freaking out that someone else will take our spot even though it's reserved for us for a 5 day block, regardless of when we actually get in.

Now that's what I'm worrying over. Just not the eclipse itself.

I agree with Donna, if you can see it, great, if not, life goes on, but to worry about it incessantly can not be too pleasant, even after 89 comments. Too many other natural events that are just as exciting and easier to see. That is why we have wheels on our toys....

The conditions in Oregon and Idaho are ever so slightly better than the Tetons -- but we decided that if the family (five adult kids, husbands, wives and grandchildren) were all going to convene somewhere, we should be someplace that is amazing in its own right. So if we miss the Eclipse, we'll still be together in the Tetons. That said, I know that if predictions are for rain or cloud cover, Terry will want to try to drive somewhere else. And THAT may be impossible -- For us it will be gathering together, spending days traipsing around the Tetons picking the best spot, getting camera equipment ready and keeping little ones entertained and me and my older daughter figuring out food for 13 people. And I mentioned this somewhere else -- eclipse or no, August 21 is my birthday.

Well, happy 49th Ruth, in case I don't get a chance to give you wishes again beforehand.

There's been a few threads on the upcoming eclipse, so I'm posting this on the ones that popped up during a search. I'm about 15 mins into the almost hour long video in the link.

This year's solar eclipse could cause interstate gridlock. Here's how to beat the traffic. | Circa News - Learn. Think. Do.

We're also attending SolarFest in Madras, and your concerns are the same as mine . . . that we'll get down there and our spot is being squatted. I'm not sure that the fairgrounds are a primo spot to camp, but we planning on arriving on the 17th just to make sure we get "our" spot! Also, by arriving early, hopefully we'll beat the traffic jam.

My sister offered to let me camp on her property in Sisters- but I don't really care one way or another and if I did go it would surely cloud up. So the rest of you enjoy and thank me for not jinxing it. I'll bet traffic getting to those campsites is going to be bad enough.

Yeah, I think you need to be far, far away, just in case.

Thanks!

They said that about the '84 Olympics in LA.- didn't happen. With the media it seems there's no good news unless it's bad news. Enjoy the Eclipse!

They do focus on the negative stuff. I would love to see more good news stories. There is lots of good out there!
