About 11:30 ("lunch time") a 660 lb mama bear and 2 cubs arrived in the campground nearest to town, and had lunch at every campers table, and almost had a feast at the nearest cafe, but the staff wisely evac'ed everyone from the patio dining, and removed the food to the kitchen. The only fisherman we talked with who'd had any luck showed us his fishhead on his stringer: the mama bear got the rest. We left the next day, and went instead to Convict Lake, where the bears are still wild, and only the deer try mooching a handout, the trout were still biting!

“Bears are made of the same dust as we, and breathe the same winds and drink of the same waters. A bear’s days are warmed by the same sun, his dwellings are overdomed by the same blue sky, and his life turns and ebbs with heart-pulsings like ours and was poured from the same fountain…” -John Muir
Wow! now that is a big bear, must be an expert with the Pic-a-nic Basket.
Good call on Convict Lake, great fishing lake and quite campground.
