Personally, I think it's gouging, plain and simple.

“Hey, the children of Standard oil employees need shoes too.” That’s what my dad always said when a potential customer saw that our gas was 32.9 cents per gallon and the Shell Station on the other corner was 31.9 cents per gallon. Sometimes they drove away. “Cheap expletive deleted” he’d say. And we went back to work inside. And at 14 I learned another life lesson.

Yeah; and we have how many refineries, let alone oil wells, right here in Ventura County. (Original home of Union Oil Co., etc, etc, etc)

I don't know about Denmark but here in Spain you wouldn't believe the cheap gas prices you have. I was just in the Spanish equivalent of a Pilot station, in fact you wouldn't even see much difference, and I looked at the cost of a 5 liter jug of plain 5W-30 oil. 68 euros which is about $77 US. Might not change my oil as often at those prices.

Filled up Wednesday morning at the Costco just north of downtown ATL. 2.099 a gal.
Wish I'd brought a 55 gal. drum in the bed of the truck.

$1.83 at the Sam's Club in San Antonio. $1.86 at the Murphy USA nearby (WalMart) but the 3 cents higher is well worth it to me since Murphy is the only place around these parts that offers ethanol free gasoline. It's all I will use in my mowers, trimmers, chain saws, etc.

The difference being that going lead free was an improvement. As for ethanol, it's not necessary, does actual harm to the fuel system, and has less energy. It's sole purpose seems a boondoggle that benefits a select few at the expense of everyone else.
