That's a reason to make a custom housing which doesn't protrude as far... if you have a use for a hood, of course.

I think this is more of an issue in RVs than in houses because the upper cabinets...

My guess is that not enough people here are willing to pay for better-quality RV parts. Cheap volume is the motto of the North American RV industry (with exceptions, of course ;)).
