Alf, you are overworking Maryanne, those pictures are great in explaining the terrain and roads traveled......

Yes, the grade of the hills in the Atlantic provinces were noticeable in our similar motorhome, but they're so short that it's only a momentary irritation.

310 HP, 281 ft/lbs torque at 4400 RPM, when would you be running at that RPM and for how long?

For the last couple of years I have towed an Escape 19 with an Nissan Xterra, which is basically the Frontier drivetrain in a slightly shorter wheelbase. I believe the Frontier is a marginally more capable tow vehicle than the Xterra. I've had zero issues and believe that you will, too.

BTW, I live in New Mexico and deal with significant terrain on a routine basis.

Who knows, but the numbers are helpful when comparing vehicles.

The peak numbers are not all that interesting. The power curve (if published) is very interesting.

I can't find a power curve for the Nissan 3.8L V6 engine, but an example of how to think about these curves and performance appears in my post (post #3) in this thread here:

We also have a 2019 Ranger. Ours is a 2WD XLT, and the ride is stiffer than our Dodge Durango but acceptable.
We almost purchased a Frontier instead of a Ranger but just before we purchased, Ford offered a black Friday $5,000 rebate and with the dealers discount it was an offer we couldn't refuse.
Our Ranger pulls our 19' fine, even in the mountains out West.
The only options we wanted where the tow package, locking rear axle, and XLT package. We only locked the rear axle one time, and that was just a precaution to ensure we could safely pull out of an icy forest service campground in MT. Since we only have 2WD and limited options, our payload is over 1700 lbs, and our tow capacity is 7500 lbs.
I like the size of midsize vs full size for daily driving and parking, it's nice that we have a nice selection to choose from based on whichever brand we prefer(although I wish Dodge would build the Dakota again. I would love to take our Ranger power train/10 speed transmission and drop it into our old Dakota V8/5 speed). Ranger tows at much lower RPMs on hills due to power band and extra gears.

Frontier or not

We tow our 2018 19ft with a 2015 Frontier Pro4X. Have had zero issues. I did however install an intake manifold spacer which gives a few more HP and torque. I do find that fuel economy drops off quickly when towing with the v6 gas. At the time when we got the trailer I wasn't wanting to change my truck but if we keep the trailer for another couple of years I will likely be looking for a Colorado diesel to give me a little more towing capacity and fuel economy.

I have a family member that was in the car business for 25 plus years, all at Nissan dealers. From my experience AWESOME vehicles!!!!. Plus their towing capacity is normally higher them the competition. It's too bad they changed the Pathfinder in 2013 because in my opinion the 2006-2012 Pathfinder was the perfect tow vehicle for 21' Escape, 6000 lb towing capacity.
I tow our 21C now with a 2014 Armada and it has 9000 lb capacity and best of all automatic leveling once I hook up the trailer.

Enjoy the journey,

Steve
